3.93 / 5.00 4,634 ViewsOk so i was with some friends, skating, walking on this road up to this hill. Then we see this bird. Now this bird's legs are fully twisted and snapped and it's so messed up.
It could only move on with its wings, it looked like it was swimming in some invisible water. It was pathetic.
So i stare at this thing and i go "fuck, I'm gonna kill it, put it out of its pain"
So i look at it for about a minute, then I slam my board straight into its chest. But I think (not entirely sure) that I didn't kill it straight away, so kicked it hard against the curb a coupla times, to fully be sure.
Afterwards my friends all say things like, "your some sort of nutjob man, you just killed a bird!" to which I said I only did it to put it out of it's misery.
So what do you think NG, was I right, or am I the next serial killer? Also, this isn't a troll thread, but don't believe it if you don't wanna, your decision i guess.
If it was going to die a slow painful death...a few second one is a relieve...you did the right thing in my books :D

I'd've been tempted to do the same thing. Probably would've stomped on its head a bunch of times in quick succession or something to try and make it as quick as possible.
Reminds of this time my buddy and I were walking down this dirt road and we found a seagull who couldn't fly. It wasn't mangled but it was hurt, and there was a vet like a kilometer away. So we figured we should help, and my buddy picked the damn thing up. We walked down the way and it shit all over him... it was probably pretty scared.
Then the vet's was closed and there was nothing to be had for it, heh. At least we tried.

well if your ever lying in the curb with both your legs snapped give me a call
i say you are right cos i dont want to be smacked with your board and curbstomped lol
but in all seriousness yes, probably did good.
It was for the best. Beating a bird to death does sound pretty bad, but you were just putting it out of it's misery.
Well I'm glad you guys think this coz for like the rest of the day my mates were calling me a nutjob and saying it was the first sign of a serial killer.

They're getting confused between what you did and like, trapping squirrels and torturing them. Or they're just IRL trolling you.

Something or someone would have come by sooner or later and killed it anyway. If you ask me I say you did the right thing, because if some kid who was going to turn into the next Jeffery Dahmer had found it before you, instead of killing it so that it wouldn't suffer anymore and probably die of starvation anyway, he probably would have taken it home and tortured it.

You have ended a living creature's life because it couldn't move properly. You did it to put the bird's out of your vision.

Very Good Job. Your instinct is very primal. I would also do that if I were on your shoes.

I lol'd
but in all seriousness yes, probably did good.
I second this. You did the right thing. You really should have hit it in the head though.

to be honest i kinda didn't wanna explode it's head all over my shoes and stuff.
Sounds cruel but I knew that if i hit it in the body hard enough would kill it, which it did, so yeah.

I figured this was the reason actually.
Why not just hit its head with your board??

i dunno man, I guess I didn't think about it.
Probably woulda been better but nothing I can do now.
Yes, that was the only right thing to do. That bird was going to die a slow painful dead and you just sped things up.
Even taking injured birds into your home and giving them food and shelter usually results in death, they are so firghtened most of the time. I'd say you did the right thing, even if it felt wierd.

All great stories begin like this.
Also, yes, you did.
Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did.
If you had left it unable to move it would have slowly died of starvation or a cat would have eaten it alive sometime later.
Killing it was the right thing rather than letting it die.
Excuse me sir, why don't you click here?

It could move with it's wings, it could possibly recover.

I would try to gauge how much pain it was suffering. You described it writhing around. I would probably have done similar but gone for a headshot to make it as quick as possible.
Well yeah, an animal dying a slow and painful death is far worse....so you did the right thing, except you should have tried on the head and harder....(but a skateboard? Hell no. P = F/A = so if you put a force of 20N and the area was 12.413mm2 then....I'd usually use something sharper)

You did the right thing cause snapped birdlegs cannot heal.
I do not know much about the biology of birds, but was there maybe an animal shelter you could have taken it to like the Humane Society? I would think they would accept it. I guess you had good intentions and an animal could come along and eat it which would probably be a worse death. I think my family actually tried to take care of a wounded bird one time and I think it eventually got better and flew away, but that was a long time ago.

I say you did the riht thing. That is a damn shame though :(

It was a mercy killing and it is a blessing that you were around to kill it. The bird would've laid there in pain until it died of starvation if you didn't come along and end its suffering.

You did the right thing, but you didn't do it correctly. You should have broken its neck or cut it's throat.

I'd go for the neck snapping, less of a mess and the bird only feels pain for a split second.
I'd say you probably did the right thing, but I would have been sure to kill it in a single blow, if I could actually bring myself to do that, which I probably couldn't.
I assume dropping it off at a vet or animal rescue centre wasn't an option?
