Which do you prefer: Killswitch Engage or Anthrax? I like the two, but I think Anthrax is better.

It's not about the destination.
It's about the journey.

Why compare? One is a melodic metalcore band from the late 90's and Anthrax is a Thrash Metal band from the 80's.

Ponos, one of these days we gotta hook up and trip.

I'm walking to America right now.

Been a while.
Dropped acid for 3 months straight back in 86.
ONe LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOng trip that was.
Ended when my fiance at the time stabbed me in the back with a steaknife.
Was DOA and came back.
Death, the ultimate trip.

WHOAH. And I thought three days was intense. I can't believe you got stabbed in the back by your fiance'! What was she on?

So the big 4 are Metallica, Megadeath , Anthrax and Slayer.

Saw Metallica in 83 or 84.

YOU SLUT that would of been so cool, the best time to see them. Fuck.

Megadeath and Anthrax in 86.

That would of been gnarly too, Megadeth were heroin junkies then. And Anthrax had Joey Belladonna, when I saw them last year they had John Bush, and now they have Joey back again. It's fucked, I wanna see them with Joey.

Never saw Slayer.
Probably never will, not a big fan.
THey just never did anything for me I guess.

They were fun live because of the classic songs.

CAn't wait til the end of the month when I can go shopping for new music.
planning on spending a hundred or two on cds, should get me a few discs.

Also before I forget what did everyone think of the newest High on Fire and GWAR discs.
Personally I liked them both a lot.

Haven't got the GWAR disc but of course Snakes for the Divine is a godly album.

Also before I forget, Cathedral's THe Garden of UNearthly delights, is pretty damn good.
Have not heard their latest yest.

I have the Garden, bought it on CD. The CD is scratch and sniff apple :) Found the album to be ok but a bit weak, I'll have to give it a re-listen though.

Shitty lyrics though haha:

CORPSE CYCLE, IS LIFE'S CIRCLE
LIFE'S CIRCLE, IS CORPSE CYCLE!

Keep it Heavy
Peace

I shall keep it heavy,
peace be with you aswell.

LOL

I heard some of Anthrax's albums (I'm looking at you Stomp 442) are pretty shit, so maybe Killswitch are sometimes better than Anthrax.

But the classic Anthrax songs rape Killswitch in their arse, despite Killswitch being one of the best metalcore bands.

Right now I'm listening to some dark jazz that AllMightyBruce recommended me, "Bohren & Der Club of Gore". Good shit.

Anthrax by far. I don't understand the comparison between them and Killswitch Engage but hell, I'll easily take Anthrax any day of the week. KSE on the other hand, they were the ones who made that god awful Holy Diver cover.

Anthrax was cool in their earlier days with Belladonna. I don't like Killswitch Engage, but I don't think they're so bad for their type of music. There's actually one song I heard that I think is good enough to listen to, which my friend has. I don't remember the name, but it was in Guitar Hero 3. I wouldn't listen to it by choice, but I don't mind it when my friend puts it on.

If by "not really metal" you mean "pretty metal" and by "mostly rock influenced" you mean "sludgy stoner metal," then yes, corrosion of conformity are a "not really metal band" that are indeed "mostly rock influenced."

He's already made a few metal related posts this year so he's already reached his quota. However, I don't see why his METAL posts should end there. Throwing in random thoughts on any bands always helps.

So I've made this little playlist, which is my personnal top 10 for black metal tracks. I'm not that much into raw black metal, and you know that I like progressive and atmospheric stuff, so don't hope for trve black metal and super grim stuff.

Tell me what you guys think, and maybe share some songs you think would fit on the list.

I've been doing some light listening and I have come to enjoy what Ras Algethi does. It's very different from what I would usually identify as Metal but it kind of reminds me of Enya in the way it kind of captures the imagination and uses that echoing kind of style that sounds like a church choir or something of that sort.

The problem for me with both Opeth and Ras Algethi is that these songs are usually so long and there simply isn't enough changing and 'going on' in the song for a large part of it that my eyes kind of glaze over and I don't even notice it. I might be enjoying the song for about 3 or 5 minutes before it starts to kind of fade into the background of what I'm doing. This seems to be a problem for me when it comes to the longer songs of Progressive. It's odd they call it progressive because I rarely ever feel like the song is building up to anything, it just kind of drones after a while.

All this talk of metalcore saddens me. People seem uneducated to bands such as Zao and Converge. They're a million times better than killswitch engage or as i lay dying, and they don't sound as mainstream or annoying, or screamo influenced. They're really the perfect mix of metal and hardcore I've ever seen.

Zao is fairly straightforward with their stuff, focusing on heavy bone crushing guitar riffs, while Converge bombard the listener with sonic distortion, dissonance, obscure song lyrics and technical guitar riffs. They're among my favorite metal bands. If you haven't heard of them before, take a listen.
