Dunno, cause even if I did list a lot of bands, he still kept saying melodeath was shit...

No offense, but almost all the time you listed bands back then to defend melodic death metal you would always list metalcore bands.

With a few exceptions of course.

Also, I know you're a fan but is it just me or does Threat Signal's second album suck balls compared to their first?

I don't know...
Darkane, Nightrage, Kalmah, Profugus Mortis, Wintersun...
These were the bands I would always list when talking about melodeath. Sometimes I would just put All That Remains in the list, but thats the only one...
Soilwork and Scar Symmetry were some of my favorite melodeath (gothenburg metal) bands...
And I know he hated those.
But these kids go around saying how much The Black Dahlia Murder is awesome and all. I know they are ok, but they are faaaar more core than all the melodeath things I was really into back then :P

Also, I know you're a fan but is it just me or does Threat Signal's second album suck balls compared to their first?

It does. It sucks... a few songs have a few interresting elements. But overall... it sucks. The vocals are nothing like what they used to be...

Mih, my opinions on this style of melodeath varies on my mood.

I don't even consider them metal, that's how shittie and core-influenced they are.

It does. It sucks... a few songs have a few interresting elements. But overall... it sucks. The vocals are nothing like what they used to be...

The vocals i've always hated, but in this album the instrumental sucks also.

Which is weird cause it was so great in the first album.

The vocals are a constant reminder of that metalcore influence and of that blatant "We'll make real music, but we still wanna be popular in the mainstream"

So yeah, I can't stand the vocals.

I used to be a huge metal/hard/emo/deathcore faggot back early 2005 till late 2007.

Today I only like two albums that could be deemed metalcore to an extent: Threat Signal's debut album and Sylosis's only album, both of which could be argued as melodic death metal.

So yeah. :P

Also, unlike you I never tried to defend core in this thread back when I did like it. ;)

Found out my buddy has cancer somewhere in his throat tonight. They don't know if the cancer is on his thyroid or not. Also, his dad whom had a liver transplant recently because he was on his deathbed and after quite a bit of time of doing better and getting healthier his body is rejecting the liver right now. So pretty fucking lame. That family never seems to get a fucking break.

It sucks that you have to try to fit. Just as you blame them for trying to be popular, you are trying so hard to be true, it's almost ridiculous. A kind of vocal is not bad only because bands with these kind of vocals are more popular. Also, you like power metal, power metal can get very close to mainstream music, if not just dive completely into it like Avantasia did.

I used to be a huge metal/hard/emo/deathcore faggot back early 2005 till late 2007.

And now you are so true and kvlt

Also, unlike you I never tried to defend core in this thread back when I did like it. ;)

You remember what I said about pride? Metalcore is alright cause it led me into metal and into the genre of music I like the most. I couldn't just shit on my origins and my past experiences because they made me what I am today. So if you ask me if I like core today. I will give you the same answer I gave a hundred times: Yes, I like core. But I admit that something like 95% of what is done in core music is horrible.... Alesana... Bring Me The Horizon... and so many shits I can't even bother to think about...

Threat Signal is one of these bands I really like. Through The Eyes Of The Dead, while still being death metal, do include some core elements in their stuff. All That Remains, The Human Abstract and others like this.

So, metal

I recently bought Dopethrone by Electric Wizard
and Echoes Of Decimation by Origin.

So for the last weeks I have been listenning to both of these albums way too much. I thought it was quite funny that I would listen to the slowest of Stoner Doom Metal and then switch to the Most brutal, technical and fast death metal stuff. Big contrast there :P

But they're trying to be popular in both the melodeath community and the core community.

Basically, they wanna be In Flames.

A kind of vocal is not bad only because bands with these kind of vocals are more popular.

Well these kind of vocals are just annoying, not the kind of death metal vocals I like.

And I saw TS live, his clean vocals suck balls in real life.

power metal can get very close to mainstream music

Sonata Arctica which has a fanbase in the pop community and Dragonforce which made an astounding leap to fame, not really.

Look at Michael Kiske of Helloween back in the day, he's been in countless rock and pop groups since and every single one has been a failure.

if not just dive completely into it like Avantasia did.

The metal opera albums were far more mainstream than the scarecrow.

Seriously, just pure mainstream power metal built around the premiums of gathering other musicians to guest sing a verse each.

The Scarecrow at least tries to be meaningful.

I used to be a huge metal/hard/emo/deathcore faggot back early 2005 till late 2007.

Haha i'm not big into black metal and whatnot.

I've always been more into the cleaner stuff anyway.

Why would you respect yourself years earlier despite all the mistakes and bad choices you've made? No you're supposed to hate who you've been and inspire to be far better than that.

You're not going to say in 30 years "Boy i really respect myself as a 17 year old"

So, metal

So, does anyone know any good symphonic black metal bands? I've been listening to a lot of black metal lately, yet I seem to be more into the symphonic stuff, like Anorexia Nervosa, Dimmu Borgir, etc.

Any good recommendations?

It definitely would if I had any bands like that. The closest for me is Helloween's first album Walls of Jericho sharing the same name as a metalcore band. Good thing I hardly hear about that band, though.

One of my favorite things about stoner metal is that it's slower than regular metal, but not ponderously slow like other doom. Moderate.

I don't know why you are assuming that they want to be popular in both communities. In fact a lot of bands are not even aware of how they are classified. I heard one of Despised Icon's vocalists during an interview say that his band is a death metal band. Even if they are deathcore in the most obvious way.
And you simply cannot compare Under Reprisal to Come Clarity or A Sense Of Purpose. In Flames have gone core in the worst possible way and Threat Signal are one of the rare bands to make good core.

I think that Power Metal is the most commercial metal genre.

Melodic Death Metal, dur.

I know a fuckload of people who hate power metal even more than the harsher metal genres.

Which is not making them less good or less innovative. In fact I like power metal, but I just see them as easy-listenning metal.

Easy listening metal is an oxymoron.

The metal opera albums were far more mainstream than the scarecrow.
How is that?

Just generic dragonforce, hammerfall, etc. style.

They use such generic and stereotypical guitar riffs, sounds, etc.

The Scarecrow is pretty much the same... I mean... Alice Cooper, Kamelot's vocalist... that girl in "What kind of love", Michael Kiske.

The musicians don't affect the kind of music.

This = / = this.

The metal opera albums are boring and generic.

Scarecrow is interesting and innovative.

The Scarecrow at least tries to be meaningful.
I really like The Scarecrow, but you should go read some of the reviews about it on Metal-Archives. Not everybody seems to find "meaning" in the work of Tobias Sammet.

I never understood why the metal community love the MO's but hates the scarecrow, the ladder is sooooooo much better.

So everytime you look back you think: "What a fucking douche I was!"

Not so much "Douche" but more "Idiot"

I won't diss all the bands that got me first into metal... Kalmah, Slipknot, CoB.

Even though they are pure shit?

Disturbed was one of the bands that got me into metal, I openly admit they are god awful today.

If I don't like a band anymore i'm not going to say "Well they got me into good bands, so kudos to them!"

My little brother listens to Fred Penner, he's not going to say in 10 years "BOY I DON'T LIKE HIM ANYMORE, BUT I STILL RESPECT FRED PENNER FOR MAKING LITTLE KID MUSIC WITH NO MEANING"

Even for a power fag? :P

I know more power metal bands that I do bands of any other genre, but that doesn't change the fact I like other genres more these days.

Yeah, I fucking swear. There was this girl I went to High School with and a guy I worked with at the grocery store who just wasn't into metal at all, but he knew Stratovarius and told me he really liked Millenium and shits.

I know a fuckload of people who hate power metal even more than the harsher metal genres.

Biggest reason being that they don't like the vocals. Because power metal is veryyyyy melodic, it has very simple song structures (almost poppish), Radio-friendly vocals and all that kind of stuff.

Which is not making them less good or less innovative. In fact I like power metal, but I just see them as easy-listenning metal.
Easy listening metal is an oxymoron.

Hell no!

Agalloch, Edguy, Avantasia, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Symphony X, Sonata Arctica, Dream Theater, Helloween, Mago De Oz, Nightwish, Kamelot, Katatonia, Liquid Tension Experiment, Jacobs Dream, Allen-Lande, Altaria, Voyager and I can't be bothered to list more bands event though there is a shitload of bands that I would consider easy liustenin metal...
Not easy for the un-educated pop fans and their limited comprehension of arts. But I have a few friends who are not into metal and they still like bands from this list

The musicians don't affect the kind of music.
The metal opera albums are boring and generic.
Scarecrow is interesting and innovative.

I know about all this. But even if Metal Opera sounds more generic for the power metal scene, The Scarecrow sounds very pop.

Not so much "Douche" but more "Idiot"

I don't care about the insult used. The fact stands... you are dissing what you once was.

I won't diss all the bands that got me first into metal... Kalmah, Slipknot, CoB.
Even though they are pure shit?

They are not pure shit. Kalmah and CoB are still amongs the bands I like to listen to. And Slipknot, if Corey Taylor was not such a pretenious hypocritical bitch, would be a better band.
And shit or not, they are what got me first into metal. I know that if my first contacts with metal would have been Ulver and Benighted, I'm quite sure that I wouldn't have traded my Sum 41 albums for Bergtatt and Insane Cephalic Production. Slipknot was like an "in-between" a bridge between popular music and metal.

Disturbed was one of the bands that got me into metal, I openly admit they are god awful today.

Disturbed... shit? Can't see what's so bad about them. Ten Thousand First was a good album. They may not be truezzz but they still write good alternative metal stuff.

Haha lol.

Anyway...Finally one of my favorite band will come in Quebec: Rammstein! I know that a lot of people doesn't like them or doesn't consider them as a metal band but the old stuff was nice. Rosenrot CD was 'a major pain in the ass'' for my ears.

Hey the guys, I would like to know: which artist has the nicest corpse paint???
Stian Thoresen- as known as Shagrath from the band Dimmu Borgir

A quick google search got me to find this.

Also yes, that would be fucking hilarious if Corey Taylor got cancer. He would be like "RAAAAAAHHHHH I'M STILL ANGREH RAAAAAAAGE" lol.
