They are very different bands.

The main reason being that Symphony X has all the power metal influences in the world, as Dream Theater has very, very few - if any.

Does it really matter if anyone here enjoys Metalcore in the slightest? I could care less.

like Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu Borgir.

Are Cradle of Filth even meant to be black metal in the slightest? I never even listened to that much Cradle of Filth to find any black metal elements.

Last.fm would have been more appropriate. Last time I even tortured myself to this crap, artist shoutboxes had a fair amount of genre debates.

All That Remains are one of my favourite bands lulz. and I love The Human Abstract and Parkway Drive :3

I prefer heavier stuff though, like The Black Dahlia Murder (favourite band), Amon Amarth, Death, Children Of Bodom, Windir etc.

How about make fun of you? That is deathcore don't compare both, you can't compare All That Remains and Bring Me The Horizon... well I'll not say I don't like Bring Me The Horizon, but I am not a special fan, they don't arouse any emotion in me, I just can't understand their music and it's all... "PRAY FOR PLAGUES, RAWR! RAWR! RAWR! stuff... RAAAAAWWWWWR! RAWR RAWR! PRAY FOR PLAGUES! RAWR RAWR!" Also they have a song called "Rawr"... wtf?

They're really just crappy metalcore compared to other bands like ATR, PWD etc.

Deathcore is an amalgamation of two musical styles: metalcore and death metal.

Metalcore bores me. It always has. I can't think of a time in which I ever truly, genuinely liked it.

Blargh...also, I missed Vader and Decrepit Birth a couple of nights ago for financial and work-related reasons. I'll be lucky if I can even make it to one more gig before the year's up.

God fucking damn it...

No, you can.

In the same way you can compare Folk metal with clean vocals and folk metal with unclean vocals.

It's not different. The only difference between metalcore and deathcore is the death metal influences in deathcore. Other than that, the two genres make use of screamed vocals and one-note breakdowns.

That's like saying you can't compare black metal and death metal because they're different. The whole point of comparing things is to either show how similar they are, or how different they are. If we couldn't compare things that are different, then there would be no point in doing any comparisons.

And for the record, deathcore and metalcore are pretty similar.

Gonna ask for some recommendations for some melodic death bands, it's pretty much the genre I most frequently listen to. Here are the bands that I currently listen to, just so you don't recommend me something I already know:

Insomnium (My current favorite)
Kataklysm
In Flames
Arch Enemy (heard somewhere they are melo death)
Meshuggah

That's about all I know (at least, the ones I listen to most) so someone please recommend me others.

I hear Soilwork is pretty good, but I don't know much about them. Amon Amarth is good (not sure if they're melodeath) and definately check out Gojira if you like Meshuggah. Into Eternity is another good melodeath band (with progressive leanings), but don't get their newest album, it sucks.

The Absence, Scar Symmetry, are my two favorite melodic death metal bands. Definitely check them out.

So I finally got around to checking out Devin Townsend. I got Ziltoid the Omniscient which was pretty fun the first time through but barely any of the songs had a lasting effect on me. I love the song The Greys though. A lot. I'm going to check out his other stuff.

Also Kroda. Their album Cry to Me,River is some excellent black/folk. Kind of like Falkenbach but less cheesy.

Carcass, Kalmah, At the Gates, and Hypocrisy.

Also Meshuggah is experimental, not melodic death metal.

You are wasting your time my dear friend. Even if they are total opposites... they'll still classify all that as core elements as metalcore. You are right dude, these two bands just are very different.
But I've been there... I've tried to defend core in the metal hell and a lot of people just won't accept the fact that there is some good core music. But you really shouldn't give a damn. Stick to who you are and let them talk.
