Never judge an album by just one song bro, the rest just may kick ass.

I know the subject died, but eh...

Dimebag was a good lead guitar player. His solos were pretty good, but his riffs were really broish. Their only really good song cementary gates, and Dream Theater already made a much better version of it. Oh, and he had one of the worst guitar tones of all time. Not to mention that after he died he got titanically over rated. But that happens with pretty much every artist that dies at a relatively young age. The only exception I see here is Chuck Schulinder. At least outside youtube videos >_>

Hell some songs take a good 5 to 6 listens for me to fully appreciate. Out of my top 10 favorite bands I probably liked 2 or 3 on the first listen. The rest had to grow on me after repeated listening.

I share this view.

Despite ranting about how Death weren't the greatest death metal band ever a while back.

But their last couple of albums I would consider to be among the greatest of all time.

Their final albums pretty much transcend death metal, anyways.

Hey guys, just passing by to let you know I've just turned 20 :)

I've got a few very nice gifts from my family and girlfriend but I'll only list the "related to the Metal Hell" gifts. Such as the Yamaha bass guitar I'll receive on september 30th. And also Blood Red Throne's album: Souls Of Damnation. WHICH IS FUCKING AMAZING !!! and also Sailing The Seas Of Cheese by Primus :)

Also, even if it's not related, I received a great book, the video game Infamous and tickets for some humor show (if that's the way you call these events in english)

Yes yes and a tab book of The Police's greatest hits. I guess that's a good place to start.

Hello there, I have nothing better to do so I decided to check in here again. Since none of you will remember me (every now and then I hang around here for a couple of weeks, and the last time is probably over a year ago): the first ten bands in my labrary would be:
65daysofstatic (postrock, proba bly a bad start)
Agalloch (Those interested in their new dvd: The show was great, but I didn't see much camera's back then, so I don't know if it'll look good)
Amenra
Amesoeurs
Amon Amarth
Anathema (Saw an excelent show of them a couple of days ago, btw. Anneke van Giersbergen joined them for the female vocals, because she made a cd with Danny Cavanagh, and they brought asong of that project too.)
Ancient rites
Anthrax
Apocalyptica
Arch Enemy
At the Gates

one more before somebody whines about 65dos

My main tastes would be doom and black metal, postrock/metal and related gernes.

I also saw the term "whalecore" on the previous page. What the fuck is that supposed to be?

PM me your e-mail adress for a lockerz invite!

I was only referring to their 80's such as Piranha, probably their most kick-ass song.

Their songs just feel so repetitive and it's like listening to the same song over and over and over again.

I'm 50-50 on this. If you hear a song from a new album and you don't find it to be anything interesting, chances are the whole album might not interest you. On the other hand, the band themselves might have chosen the wrong song for a preview for their new album and maybe the album itself isn't as bad as you think. Usually if I hear a new song and don't enjoy it, I won't be too desperate to get the album and put it aside for the time being.

well, Scepticism is great, and so is Nortt. Whatever you do with Nortt, don't start with galgenfrist, though. I did that and it took months before I tried checking anything else from Nortt. Galgenfrist is no longer funeral doom, but almost drone, and I didn't like it back then (several plays later and knowing more from nortt, I do think it's a good album).
Going more towards depressive black metal (funeral doom and dsbm flow over into eachother quite well) try stuff like trist, Shining, Hypothermia or Trancelike Void, and the other bands with members of those bands (or the stuff they made together), and when going more towards death/doom try Mournful Congregation, Forgotten Tomb or Evoken. A while ago I saw Evoken three times in one week, and I did not get sick of them. that has to mean something, I think.

Since this is a wall of text already, I might as well expand it even more, and say I looking forward to next sunday, to see Lifelover live in Holland. Other interesting shows in the next few months would be Swallow the Sun, Satyricon with Shining, Hypothermia and Mayhem. and I'm already short on money...

Probably not, but the beer thrower's goal was the proke Dickinson and he suceeded.

So because the thrower was trying to provoke Dickinson, because Dickinson actually did get mad that means he's a little bitch?
