I think Trivium is alright, even though they get flamed a lot, their latest album is pretty good.

I used to jam with a guy that loved that song and played it all the time, and at the time I had a really good screaming voice, and I would scream the lyrics in the interpretation of that song, it was funny

Sounds interesting, will check it out when it's released.

Guys, we had a discussion about Dio vs. Ozzy Black Sabbath before. Well, when we did that, the Tony Martin albums were unknown to me....

I find it hard to believe you don't know this.

I guess I should have been more specific about it as it depends which religion we're supposed to be basing this one, but hey, since we never say what, we can easily say Dio and Lemmy are gods.

BTW, I'm aware of other religions believing in more than one god.

You know I checked them out on Youtube one time and since then I've been fiercely addicted to the song Profits of Doom. I've yet to listen to an entire album of theirs though.

However, most bands take it over the top or just find words that rhyme every other line which is terrible.

Yeah that can be annoying sometimes. It's like they're writing for an 8th grade english assignment.

At 6/9/09 10:06 PM, D3NTATUS wrote: Do you mean in metal or in general? For both I'd say that I agree, though.

I was thinking in general though in all fairness most of what I listen to is metal with only a few exceptions.

I can't really understand lyrics, even when the vocalist sings very clearly, so lyrics have never been a huge problem for me.

There's very few cases where I'll actually hear something the first time listening to it that pisses me off. The only one I can really think of is Be My Druidess by Type O Negative which really pisses me off with it's "I'll do anything to make you come."-break out of nowhere. It really fucks with what was an otherwise a great song.

I don't have any problems enjoying music for musics sake but looking at it from an artistic standpoint if I read your lyrics and they're shitty it kind of kills the mood. If you're singing about, let's say depression ... at least use some literary devices instead of letting the thesaurus explain everything for you. I hate that "sad" stuff generally has this problem with the overuse of words like "sad, despair, sorrow" of course these words have the potential to work if you know what you're doing but if there isn't any greater meaning behind them they come off as hollow and insincere.

I can't think of any metal bands with really great lyrics (though i do love Electric Wizard and Sleep's lyrics.)

Off the top of my head I've got Agalloch, Arcturus, Atheist, Death, Solefald, Warning and Yearning. I could probably make a longer one if I sat down and tried.

At 6/9/09 10:31 PM, Nev wrote: TNP, Dystopia's lyrics are generally good. Mainly about abused and politics. I don't know if you read my post the other day but they're like Warning with the depression replaced by anger.

I'm going to look into them sometime soon.

I had the honor of seeing Sabbath with Tony "The Cat" Martin.
The man has his own style which fits.
Saw him do The Wizard.
Fuck yeah.
Cross Purposes tour.
Morbid Angel opened.
Then Lemmy and the boys.
Fuckin killer show all around.
Motorhead were doing the Bastards Tour.
But I digress...
Tony Martin, fuck yeah, damn good with Sabbath.

I have a hard time understanding them too but even as nonsensical as I find some of them they're still wonderfully written. There's just something about the words and the way they use them that works perfectly. Neonism still being the only album of theirs that I've heard so far, some of the songs like Flourescent seem to be pretty straightforward and there's ones like CK II Chanel N*6 that are critical of consumerism. The impression I get from that one is that it's ridiculous for people to get so rich and powerful off of something as silly as fashion.

Then there's lines in certain songs that are just genius in their own right even if I can't see how they relate to the rest of the song like "Searching for knowledge in the spirit of Tintin, Alone on a plain with Plato and Plotin" which is awesome first for referencing The Adventures of TinTin but also the fact that Plato and Plotinus as philosophers were complete and polar opposites, one standing for the advancement of philosophy, math, and science and the other for mysticism and metaphysics.

white man came across to me, to wipe my ass with tabloid paper

I love that one too, haha. Almost as much as much as the "Your mother is a goal she cries for every ball." portion of Third Person Plural. I lol'd hard when I first read that.

Any of you watch Ufo Hunters? If so did u see last nights episode? It was disturbing, To the thought of Humans doing experiments on other humans and haveing Aliens in the same room doing experiments on there kind too.

For instance theres doing this NSFW! to humans now to in a base thats hidden in th in a mountain in New Mexico in Indian Reserve. Doing it on a mouse would be slow procress but on a human you would Speed up Medical technology 30 years in ad vance.

It would be a lot easier to respond if any of us knew what the fuck you were talking about. See, if anyone else watches the show, they'd understand, but everyone else here is left totally in the dark. At least explain stuff for the ignorant.

I felt the same before, but after checking them out I can say they are quite excellent.

Check out these songs:

The Headless Children, Thunderhead (for kickass Epic 80s Metal)
Mean Man (for an attitude-laden Hard Rock/Heavy Metal breed)
Rebel In The F.D.G. (for driving 80s metal with speed metal tendencies).

Before you get any albums first, the only songs I like from them is "Wild Child" and "Blind in Texas" so you can give those a check first. It's from the Last Command album.

Well I was talking shit and whatnot, saying "Oh yeah my team can trounce yours" etc. I had to live up to it and I WOULD HAVE WON if it weren't for an error by Luis Castillo (a player).

So there goes my grocery money for a month, great.

I think what made me reluctant to check them out in the first place was possibly someone calling them glam/hair metal, but I'm hoping that's not so. Thanks to you and UltimateAxl for recommendations on their songs. I'll be sure to check them out later.
