I like the instrumental bits, but the singing is not my type. The 2-4 that I like are good, but not ground-breakingly amazing. I prefer "softer" vocals, not like that.

Would you believe Wikipedia if they labelled Slipknot as a grindcore band? Calling BFMV "metal" is almost as bad as calling Slipknot grindcore (and I DID see Wikipedia labelling Slipknot as grindcore). BFMV are more of a hardcore band than a metal band.

Newb guy, I appreciate the earnest attempt, but real metal doesn't seem like its for you. Seriously, just from a mathematical percentage point (of growling compared to clean). Unless your tastes change or you learn to put up, it just doesn't seem right. I do have a good recommendation though, if you want some generally good music, check out prog rock. Start with clean Opeth and Porcupine Tree, go from there. There's a ton of great music in that genre and it has almost exclusively clean vocals. It may not be for you, but IMO prog and metal are like cousins.

For heavier prog check out Dream Theater and Shadow Gallery. Rise Against is punk and Saosin is again punk, thus not metal, thus we can't recommend stuff similar, sorry.
