I used to think the same thing. It is a kinda Metalcore-ish style name.
This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

Hehehe, check out "Blinded by Fear". It's basically every metalcore song ever.
Seriously...I'm almost positive that modern metalcore takes all it's cues from At The Gates. The riffs, the song structure, even the three worded name. They just dressed it up in shitty clothes.jarry

And since we're on the subject, what are your views on this kind of metal?
Well Southern Style metal is awesome, but there isn't enough to it. I know lots of bands from New Orleans, but most of them are sludge metal, however I'll recommend them anyway.
Pride & Glory (Zakk Wylde's side project, only one album)
Crowbar
Eyehategod
Acid Bath
Rwake

That should suffice for now.

If you're going to look into it, also check out Storm Troopers of Death (SOD), The Accused, and Hirax. It's a different sound, and it's fun to listen to every now and again like NWOBHM.

oh man, my friend just told me a funny story.
The below is a quote (paraphrased) from my friend Luc:
So these girls at the beach were hitting on me and stuff a few days ago. I was just hanging out and they started talking to me about stuff and flirting, it was really annoying but I put up with it. Eventually they started asking about me, like what music I like and whatnot. I told them I like alternative, reggae and metal. After I said metal, the more talkative of the two girls said "really? like Slipknot?" I responded to that with "No, Slipknot are pussy mallcore shit, not metal." She said "No, they're fucking hardcore (hardcore in the awesome sense, not the music genre)" Then they asked if I had a girlfriend, I said yes, they asked if she was blonde (both girls were blonde), I told them she wasn't. then they left. I swear to god, they made me feel ashamed to be a human being.

Hahaha, thank god we don't have many women like that in Mexico.... although when a girl here asks you what music you like and you respond with metal, it really amazes me, but I've gotten answered back with "Metal? What's that?".
So, the question I raise here is he following:
What do you prefer? For people to confuse real metal with things like Slipknot or to not know what metal is altogether?
Apologies aren't what I look for. Redemption is what I want!
Look at my profile to see a true cockhead! DO IT NOW!

The second one. Usually when someone has their mind set on Slipknot being Metal they won't take no for an answer. At least you can give someone who dosen't know any better the right idea.

I'm going to conform like everyone else and say this.
The only upside to people thinking Slipknot is metal is telling them it isn't, and slowly chipping away at their personal music universe.

I agree.
So what if they like Slipknot and think its Metal. Their ignorance doesn't affect us one bit.

I also agree, I don't pay attention to them, its the fact that I know theyre dumb and ignorant that keeps me from telling them off.

If a person likes a band, they like a band, regardless of genre, so it doesnt matter if they have a genre correct or not. It's one thing to correct something wrong for the sake of correcting, but its the whole elite attitude that makes you equally a jerkoff.
If i liked Black eyed peas and called it rap, and someone corrected me with hip hop, I dont know either genre to know or care enough, but in the end I just like the band for whatever it is. Amirite? No matter how much you would finally convince me of what it truly was, it doesnt make me want to care more about hip hop, hate the band less, nor does it change you opinion on the either one.
We all share an ignorance in something, and it doesnt make us better for being elitist. Just stuck up.
dont hurt me :(
