3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsHi there,
I'm the developer of a music driven game called Beat Hazard, you can see it in action here: Video
I'm currently working on an add on called Beat Hazard Ultra and I'm looking for music to include in the game. Here's the deal:
- Ultra should be out May/June time on the PS3 and PC. (Later on Mac and maybe iPad & iPhone after that)
- The tracks you provide will be embedded in the game and can cannot be played/copied separately.
- I'm going to add a music credits screen where I can show your details: Name, web address, album cover, etc.
- I can't offer any payment for the music, but hopefully the exposure in the game will compensation enough.
If you're interested in submitting a track, then post up a link here. I'm looking for about 15-20 tracks in total.
Cheers,
Steve
Hello Steve
Welcome to the sexy audio portal and forum that is newgrounds, you'll find a lot of people that will love to help you in your game.
I have left you a pm in your account inbox regarding this thread.
Enjoy your stay
Music is my passion , not my business.
wow that game is on XBOX LIVE this is serious business. lol. ah cool man. if i LTBB in a .wav i'd send it to you. i dont even have the track anymore. hate that,
Beat Hazard's a fun game, I've got it downloaded onto my computer, in fact.
I've got quite a few songs, but let me post a few suggestions:

If you need .wavs, .wavs I can produce, but it'll have to wait until after I get back from China.
I think this is probably the only song I've got that could work in a game like that.

my music is for free on bandcamp, i dont have NG versions of those songs
While I don't really have anything that I personally think is worth it (By all means take a look and prove me wrong if you care to do so), I will say, awesome job.
I bought Beat Hazard via Steam, love the game... So much so that I'm willing to beta test the new one. *Wink wink, nudge nudge*

Hello, hello again. I'm questioning you about the game. You said you can't offer payment, thats not really a bad thing. but this brings up somethings i read about time from time. the game is either 400/800 or somewhere around that on xbox live. Of course if its not much of a selling item, that could explain your position on payment, i doubt it because its really easy to find on live and actually rather fun.
I would assume this is because microsoft and/or other distribution companies take a large (larger then they should) cut of the pay. Is this the case? because videogames are something i look forward to creating and unfortunately because of the nature of the art it's not really possible to publish one without working with one big company or another. unless its something simple, which never really describes every aspect of the game. then you can upload it to the huge evil corporation known as newgrounds if its flash.
The songs on newgrounds are written under a CC license, which means you cannot profit from it. Any songs used from the audio portal would need to be removed by the author/admin and re-released under a new licensing.
On top of that, it seems you are new to paying artists under a low budget. If you are selling products with our work, and can not afford a fixed pay, then it is customary to offer a percentage of revenue. In some cases this may seem arbitrary, because a small percentage like 5% may only equal out to 10-20 USD, but that aside, it is still recommended.
This being newgrounds and all, I am sure you could find some people to write music for your game for free or remove their media from newgrounds to be put on the game for free, but I thought I would let you know.
HI, thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that this website owns the rights to the music posted here. Don't the artists own the rights to their own music? (Or has it been made using software supplied by this site?)
Re payment: When you say 5%, are you talking about 5% of profits or 5% of the retail cost of the game?
I can get 10 tracks of licensed music for $50 that I can use in a commercial game (Which is what I did last time round). This time I thought it would be nice to get some free exposure for Indie musicians. I get a lot of players asking where they can buy the music in the game from and I'm sure artists can make money off their work that way.
Am I asking for music in the wrong place?
Cheers,
Steve

we'd have to sign a contract of some sort if they own the rights. newgrounds doesnt have exclusive rights, somewhat describing it the music is shared freely among people but you need permission to use it in a commercial sense not necessary payment. it wouldnt make any sense that anyone could own it unless they actually created it, or had permission to pursure ownership
allright
In regards to the CC License, I'd like to clarify something that I think came across wrong earlier:
"Licensing Terms
Commons Deed | Legal Code | ?
Download this song!
Attribution: You must give credit to the artist.
Noncommercial: You may not use this work for commercial purposes unless you make specific arrangements with the artist under another license.
Share Alike: If you alter, transform, or build upon this music, you may distribute the resulting creation only under a license identical to this one."
There is no reason the artist has to take their music off Newgrounds, nor does Newgrounds own the rights to said music. As shown in the italics, the artist has every right to let someone use their music for commercial purposes, as long as there is some kind of agreement between the two parties (I.E. The commercial party doesn't just take it without telling the artist).
So, there is really no need to be concerned about the Licensing on Newgrounds as it is up to the individual artists to work out their own licensing terms should someone like to use their music in a commercial product.

Thank you for clearing that up. That makes sense now.
When will this game come out? I can make a song for it.

I purchased Beat Hazard on Steam a couple of months ago. I really like the colorful displays in the game.

for all of the Smith Comma John songs, you'll need to remove the [S,J] from the songs.
So here are what I consider my most appropriate tunes. I'd be willing to remove any and all of these from Newgrounds, and have them used for free. Both of these are breakcore.

There's actually a video of that second one being played in the first game on Insane, and my friend who played in the video just couldn't pass it.

these two songs are 8 minutes and 12 minutes long respectively, while that is kinda long i can cut out sections you like for proper use, that is if you like it. please listen to the whole thing though as they change up often and the second part i tried to keep from being repetitive even though its 12 mins, the second one (CORE)i consider one the best songs ive made to date.
