Drug Prohibition is such a waste of time. I don't use drugs, but I don't think the government should spend millions of dollars, kill hundreds of people, and invade everyone's privacy just to enforce a certain opinion.

well, I agree and disagree in a way. I think the government goes about it all wrong, but we DO need to fight a war against drugs. Unfortunatly, we have never done that in this country. Instead we fought a war against DRUG ADDICTS. I think if we spent more money on treatment instead of jails we could reall do so much more on a whole. Unfortunatly, we cant detect all the drugs that come into this country and the people who are bringing in the most drugs are being protected by our own crooked government officials. We really need to get on the ball here and start putting money into treatment centers, I think that is our only hope.

nocoins basically said everything I would have if I had gotten here first. Treatment, not jail time, is the best way to combat drugs, although I don't think it should be mandatory. The gov't takes away people's freedoms to choose because they want to do what is best for us, by telling us that drugs are bad, m'kay. However, if people want to be stupid or responsible, the decision should be theirs.

Unfortunatly, DRUGS themselves take away peoples right to choose as well. At least if the person was clean and then released back into society, they would get all thier freedoms back. If they are just locked up, ...well, you get the picture.

Agreed, but the Catholic Church does the same ;) Ha! Anyway... if someone start doing drugs, that's his/her decision. If drug education was much better in this country (more along the lines of REAL education, not just that "Say No!" crap) people would have a better idea of what drugs actually do to a person, what the effects and consequences are, how to control yourself, and where to get help.

Yes, people shouldn't be locked up in jail for what can be called a victimless crime. Right now, though, dealing isn't victimless, but if drugs were legal, they could be controlled (and taxed) like other substances, like cigarettes and alcohol. They wouldn't be locked up, because in jail they wouldn't learn anything. But in rehab, they can get clean and go back to being a productive member of society.

I could see major drugs like cocaine and acid, but why raid for marijuana? You might as well raid for Jack Daniels or Camel Cigarettes!
