[Central News Post]

Hello maestros and golden eared members of NG! I'm excited to tell you about this little project I've gotten myself wrapped up in. I've recently convinced my university to let me build a video game for a course in the winter semester, so I'll have to have at least a working alpha by April 2011.

I'd like to see everything built up from scratch and a lot of different talent tapped, so I've designed this collab so that all the major "departments" here at NG can take part in some way. I've created this thread along with 4 others in their respective forums in order to focus the discussion.

Check out the thread in the Collab Forum for the basic background information!

Audio Contribution Opportunities

This game will be a Choose Your Own Adventure with RPG elements throughout. It will need several soundtracks!

Now, I am NOT asking y'all to go out there and CREATE music for me from scratch (unless you REALLY want to, then please get in touch). Rather, I'd like you to help suggest tracks from the Audio Portal for the game!

For now, I'm looking for are simple tracks that would serve as decent background music for a fairly leisurely kind of game where you are reading, enjoying some graphics and making choices. They can range from upbeat to slow.

If you'd like more direction than that... take a look over at the ART THREAD or WRITING THREAD for this project. Hopefully they get populated with both visual and written scenes that can be matched with a tune!

Other Opportunities

I will probably be looking to get a soundbank together for stuff like clicking a button, a game over noise, etc.

I will probably NOT get in to voice acting since that would add a huge layer of coordination (I plan to have large scripts for NPC characters).

If you'd really like to create an original piece for this project, that would be welcomed with very open arms. However, I caution you that my expectations for this game are pretty high in terms of quality so only volunteer if you've got the skills and the time!

Rev Share / Credits

Since I'm only asking you guys to make suggestions, I probably will not be offering rev share. I will however give a big shout out in game to those who help here, and if you really step up and go above and beyond I'd consider giving you co author credit. If you end up actually making a piece for the game THEN we can talk about rev share.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions

Feel free to ask anything audio related here! For general questions I'd prefer if you used the Collab Forum thread or the Central News Post.

I'm also going to try to come on AIM on Friday afternoons under the email projectodenovo@gmail.com (note the 'o' between 'project' and 'denovo').

PMing me also works!

Thank you in advance for your time and talent!

Hi there, I'd actually be interested in composing the entire score for the game if you'd let me! I LOVE RPG games and have desperately been wanting to compose the score for one! If you're interested please let me know ASAP so I can get started right away.

Well, that's fantastic! Listening to:

And it's funny because I just turned off some Infected Mushroom to listen to it and it's so similar!

You seem to know what you're doing; I'd love to have you on board. At this early point in the game I can't give a ton of creative direction so it's at your own risk if you jump in right away. If you wait a week or so there may be some concepts floating around in the other threads that can be built off of.

HOWEVER, I'm fairly certain I'll be having at least one club scene in the game (the track I'm listening to now would be pretty good for it actually). So if you wanted to roll out some more dubstep or something then feel free. Keep in mind that the in game audio will likely be played at a lower volume so the Player can focus on the other stuff.

Cheers, and thanks for the quick reply, this is exciting :)

No worries man I'll create like the main menu music first since it doesn't really have to fit in with any scenery or anything. I emalied you before I noticed this reply so sorry about that. Now are you letting me do the entire game? I will not let you down!

Good idea. I'd say keep it fairly neutral - elevator muzak esque, if you can.

No worries! What's the best way to get in touch with you? Here, PM, email? Whatever works.

Well, I did tell my IRL friend that he could compose some bits. But if you have the time and the dedication you can lead the audio effort: perhaps if others want to join in on creation you could direct them so you don't get bogged down with endless work? I just don't want to shut the door entirely 20 minutes after opening it :)

Sounds good man, I'm in the Central time zone so hopefully timing will work out, as I'm currently unemployed it shouldn't be an issue though... I've got a nice simple thing for the main menu worked out so far =)

If you need a song or two written for it I can probably make something up. I don't see my music on newgrounds as very "background game" music.

^^ This track would be good for a creepy / evil scene.

I can also make some specific, little loops for you if youd like. Just give me a sample scene description and I'll see what i can do.

P.S. I don't expect you to listen to all that lol, I am just giving you as many examples as I can... you should choose one track from each artist if possible so that as many people as possible can participate in this. There is some amazing talent in the audio portal, and hell I think this track would be GREAT for your RPG if that guy gives your permission.

Back ground music! This is pretty laid back and fairly spooky. As you haven't nailed down the art yet it's difficult to know what you're after but have a listen anyway and see what you think. I can obviously edit and fill out or dumb down etc.

I've probably just diddled myself out of the project with this but it's a travesty that this guy isn't writing proffesionally.
