The flash portal is parallel to life:

Hmm ... Perhaps a new voting system should be made. With, while it is under judgement, two buttons show up with "Blam It/Save It". People still have just as much voting power, but they can choose between those two and whichever gets more votes - blam or save, judges whether or not a flash is eliminated.

After it gets out of judgment (Starting at 0.00), then people can vote on the score. Make it a new area called "Showcase" or something.

It's your guys' fault for 5'ing everything you see.
Be more harsh on flashes in judgment, and stfu.

I like it where they are, if they were higher we wouldn't have this masterpiece.

It's worked to an extent for over a decade, I don't see any reason to change it now.

I think people who vote 5 on everything under judgement are plain idiots. If you're going to stat-whore, vote 2. That way you're giving crappy submissions less chance of surviving while likely getting your b/p that you so desperately strive for.

I think the amount of pure shit that gets through the portal is disgusting. I've probably voted zero or one on three times as much flashes than those I haven't, and yet I still have more saves than blams, even if that still isn't exactly much.

I just vote flashes down if they either have:

1. A useless name that you can't even understand
2. The user's profile pic is something off MS paint.

To a certain extent, this works. However, there are cancerous little bands that spring up and force things through the portal, because they're bored, or WoW is offline, or there's nothing going on on the 4chan boards. There is a flaw in the system currently, but appealing for a change just isn't going to work, nor a change be implemented overnight. I've been banging the drum about upping the judgement criteria to 2.00, since people voting 2+ get a Save point, not people voting 1.6+

There is an addendum mooted - "Everything, by Everyone, even the shit stuff."

True fact: 100% of first animations are fucking horrible. The point of allowing shitty flashes is so that if a beginning animator submits a bad first flash they can read the reviews and develop their abilities and one day become better at it.

Granted, this is a very good counter-argument. Hence why Tom won't change the system, because it was good enough in the days when 75-80% of all submissions to enter Newgrounds were blammed out of existence and the users had to fight tooth and nail to get a Save point. I'd favour a small move toward parity, but these crazy jumps that people are talking seem elitist, where the want the bar raised so hight that you'd only get a piece saved if it had a green score on the flash portal listings. Wouldn't that be boring, as all flash suddenly are the awesome ones.

That leaves no space for the little guys, the ones that Tom so dearly wants to see protected and nurtured through this place, where they can say in the future "I was as bad as that a few years ago, but now I have a 50 episode series, which is released on my site and Newgrounds FIRST!"

Are you calling me a Save whore, as i have 58,466 Saves and only 26,766 Blams? I once had 4 times more Blams than Saves, back in the day.

I believe Tom was speaking about eliminating spam from the portal recently.

I very much agree that the standards need to be raised, as it is rather saddening to see complete shit get passed because people want to rank up their little rank on their profile that no one else cares the slightest about.

That will ensure that almost every movie or game viewed or played on this site will be fairly decent. However, I know that whenever I see a game with either 2.50 or under rating, it will probably be crap. #imjustsayin

I agree. Bullshit gets through the portal too fucking easily. 2.25 would be fair game for something to pass. What many people don't understand is that the portal was made for full animations, while tests belong in the dump section.

I'm a major sinner in this regard, I'm just too nice.

i actually think this would be a valid idea. we would get alot more "better" flashes and wouldnt have to bother with the "worse" ones
