Did you play Ragnarok Online? Do you like that game?

Kinda like having Christmas multiple times or something, it would detract from the anticipation if we knew there was another one every month. Just a thought. Love that there are so many opportunities thoughThis. I think it would be better if it were every other month, so people get at least a month to breath and recharge their batteries a bit. By having them so quickly people might get tired of them, just like how people get tired of cake if they eat it very often.
You dont have to go to every party youre invited to. You just pick and choose which Jam suits your schedule and your energy. I think the cool thing about these events is that you likely wont get the same group of people participating, and probably you wont be put on the same team two months in a row. So it has potential to keep itself interesting.
I think that the game and movie on alternating schedules IS the good break. Some months i feel like animating movies, some months i feel like knocking out gfx for games. This sort of schedule accomidates that.
As far as I can tell, the sharing of what the general theme is/might be isnt really that big of a deal, I think the general direction atleast lets you plan for what theme you might be able to be more creative in. When the game/movie jam finally arrives, the actual direction itself will be the suprise. So even though its a pico based movie jam, maybe the jam itself requests that you reinterpret an alternate ending for pico's school, or something. So it'd be hard to really jump the gun and work on a movie and try and cheat. Its probably possible to cheat, but thats kinda low, to be cheating on something thats suppose to challenge you and work ethic anyway.

This looks good, it should be exciting to have so much going on.
I'm going to be hosting the Newgrounds Hip Hop Competition sometime in March likely (It will be determined soon, I'm just waiting on my exam schedule to be released and then I'll set the dates). If the timing on the hip hop comp lines up with a JAM you should make a hip hop themed JAM!!!

Here is a rough draft of what this calendar could look like and I'm interested in feedback. Let me know if this conflicts with any common exam periods, holidays, etc. NG event days included for reference.
Jams could typically run from Friday @ 7pm until Sunday @ 7pm if that sounds good. The theme could vary for each jam to maximize excitement.

So everything's organized this year, eh Tom? There's only one request (although I bet that you probably have gotten something like this from other people before): Could you make the game/movie jams themes less predictable? The last two game jams were just basically what went on around us with the weather and all, and there was no creative stability to it at all. I know it's good to get all the basic "Holiday" or "Season" themed projects out of the way first before you set your eyes on something bigger, but perhaps a little more variety? Just a tad?
There should be a Kevin themed jam.
You get the basics of your game done and abandon it for eternity.

You haven't finished any of the games for either of the game jams.

Oddly enough the first one wasn't my bad at all.
Me and Rig lost contact with N-Deary... And our other artist was really bad and his work was basically unusable.
I did a lot for it.

A jam is a collaboration of people. The game jam includes audio people. But remember, this site is flash-based, so they aren't gonna really care about the audio. It's just like that =[
In that case, I'd love to participate as long as the workload is reasonable.
Thoughts?
This is a very good thing, i'll have to do one next summer

omgah. im so sick of these stupid Jams. people pumping out games that couldn't hold your interest for longer than a minute keep making it to the front page and taking up space where other more deserving games could be. quality over quantity, man!
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
Tentative indeed, but it looks great so far. Although they aren't included just yet, I'm excited for the different themes.

I think the movie jams should be a week long as a baseline.
You're just asking for spam content otherwise.
What about a blackberry jam! HAR HAR HAR ORIGINALZ AND T3H BESTZ!
this is awesome, now it should get everyone a chance to join one jam or another!
there should be a page, like the buddy system set-up for people wanting to join or leave the jam incase they can't make it in the last few hours or something for the future.
Not too fond of the idea of movie jams. Seems like there's too much pressure on the animator, especially if the writer and voice actor take a day to get their shit done. But hey, I don't have to participate if I don't want to. I'm just glad the game jams will be happening more often.
For each game/movie jam the challenge should be to fit the game/movie into a category already set up in the movies and games section.
So for example there would be a Noir jam and a Parody jam and a Music Video jam for movies as the year progresses.
Would be a nice way for authors to experiment with new things, atleast.

I'm sure this is a bit of a n00b question, apologies in advance for that.
Ok, I totally get what a game jam is and what it's all about. My question is physically how they happen - does everyone get together in the same place, or can teams work anywhere and then submit their game/movie at the end of the jam?

The odds of all the team-mates being on the same continent is pretty slim, so it's all done online.
If we make a game or movie for the jam, is it automatically sponsored by newgrounds?

I don't think so. In the first game jam, one of the games was made in a "deluxe" version and sponsored, and I remember them saying that you're allowed to seek sponsorship for your games. So I don't think newgrounds claims sponsorship over any of the games.
