Old unused acounts...

What's with all these old accounts? I mean, there are some accounts hanging around on NG from way back when, which were obviously created then forgotten about immediately. Isn't there some sort of deletion policy? All the accounts must be taking up some space on the NG servers, and there are quite a few of them. Surely if a user had been inactive for 11 years that would warrant a deletion. Even on the off chance they came back, what are the odds they'll remember their old username and password?

Anyways, I'm a classic lurker, mostly come on NG nowadays for the flash. Used to be a very active BBS dude back in '04ish, but now not so much.

The original Wolfos was an account from 2000, he was level 1, had not posted on the BBS, had no reviews, had no favourites and had no Flash.

If the original Wolfos was made 11 years ago,how can you have the same exact name,wouldn't it already exist?

Yup, the exact same thing happened with me to get this username, only it wasn't Tom or Wade who did the deletion.

Actually, what accounts use up is disk space, which Newgrounds has plenty of. Only when someone accesses that account / logs into it does bandwidth and server space come into it, and given the abandoned nature of them, that's unlikely to ever happen.

Also, if there were some kind of deletion policy, think of all the abusable names that would suddenly become available to trolls and idiots again. Most of the worst ones have been permabanned to the point of the original owners leaving for good, but if they were deleted outright it would only invite a new wave of morons trying to be funny with them.

They're not causing any problems as they are, so if it ain't bust, why fix it?

OP is mad because a username he wants already exists and is suggesting that old and unused accounts be deleted so he doesn't come across as wanting existing accounts deleted for hes benefit.

But if the username he wants is on an unused, dead account (and not one of the aforementioned offensive ones), he could probably get Wade to swap his name with the one he wants. Wade's been recently told to start obliging with username change requests, after all.

He wasn't usually doing them. If you had a lot of stuff on your account (Good flash / audio / art; a ton of BBS posts / reviews / trophies / whatever), but you really didn't like the name on it, you had a higher chance of him doing it for you as a kind of acknowledgement of all the things you've done with the site in return. People with accounts that were like a week old and had nothing special on them were more often told just to make a new account and forget about the old one, since they wouldn't have lost much from doing it.

Since then, the policy has been changed from 'usually not', to 'quite likely' with regards to whether or not you'll get a username change you ask for. It's still up to Wade if he wants to bother with any particularname-change, but he's apparently been told to be more lenient when judging if a name change is worth it, considering the account it's for. Or so I've been told.
