Your personal philosophy and kind of a contradiction. And you can't know whether the two-weeks guy started working on his song the day before. I think you should scratch that and disregard the submission date entirely.

I've made songs in a day that are tons better than songs I spent months on (and I remember you yourself saying that if the end result is good, it doesn't matter how it was made).

yes how it was made, hot how long it was made..

the date factor would rarely ever be considered, just for ties, in which factors may need to be closely lookedi nto - it's more liek say if you submitted it the day the contest was started and it had also quastionable quality. So rest assured it might not even be considered as a factor. Just make your songs and don't worry! :)

If you use any of these, I'd recommend using DSK Choirs, DSK Virtuoso, DSK Overture, DSK Brass and DSK Strings.

http://www.ikmultimedia.com/philharmonik /download/
For Philharmonic, I recommend just taking the instruments and moving them over to sampletank for use. I find it's better that way.

http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/p roducts/producer/kontakt-player/
Generally, when using Kore 2, I recommend looking for sample-based instuments to use. The dubplate piano and suspense strings are pretty good.
Kontact 4 comes with a very good vienna cello. Also comes with an annoying 30 minute time limit. It can be reloaded though, as long as you don't save the program itself (I made this mistake, and now I'm going to have to record every single cello sample individually. That will literally take a whole day, but then I'll be able to make a soundfont out of it.)

Haven't tried this yet. About to try it now. I seem to have gotten stuck on the installer, but I'm going to keep trying though.

Sites:
http://www.flstudiomusic.com/
http://kvraudio.com

http://google.com because I found more stuff via google than you can imagine. If you know what you're looking for, chances are that you're going to find it. You can also use it to look for forum discussions where they're discussing plugins, and find stuff that way.
And last but not least, my sig.

BTW, you don't everything listed here, you only need enough samples to complete an orchestra. Be careful which samples and soundfonts you use, and I provide this many so you can find the exact articulations and quality you want for your specific piece.

And I was going to post one more link to a 36 gig soundfont collection torrent file, but after looking through the file, I discovered that some are actually commercial soundfonts, so I'm not touching that.

Rucko... your inbox is still full. I can't return any of your PMs, but if you delete all the posts except for the original post in the entry thread, that would do. I also would like to PM you some questions.

ive noticed they sometimes do interesting things with our inbox..

I remember people telling me they couldn't send me pms - only when I had deleted FOUR HUNDRED msgs were people able to send me msgs again - almost like one day they just decided to shorten the amt of msgs you could have in your inbox while you were 400+ over that limit, but didn't implement a system to shave down your msgs to fit into that new cap.

So we're not allowed to use free aah soundfonts and the like for vocals while we can use other sampled/synthesized instruments?

no you can use any crappy samples you want soundfont wise as long as they pertain to being in an orchestra - and I do believe that choirs still fit into an orchestral settiing.

However any NON- orchestral elements you add have to take a secondary supporting role in the song, and cannot be the main focus.

My submission is coming out pretty well, but I've come to a part where I think a sitar would fit really well playing a melody. So far my submission is almost purely orchestral, but I'd like to add a part where the sitar is carrying the melody.

A sitar isn't really part of the standard orchestra, but it isn't an electronic instrument, so I'm not too sure about it. Would it be against the rules to use a sitar to play the melody in a section of the track?

I wouldn't say so. As long as the majority of your song is orchestral in style you should be ok.

Think of it liek a nobuo piece. Most of his pieces are mainly orchestral, but ther are always other elements attached to them - we are sort of aiming for a quality of somethnig like that.
