One thing you guys might not be taking into account is that its finals right now for a lot of people, including me. I would participate, but I've been busy with school and after my final on thursday I'd only have like 4 days to make a song. That and I'm busy with other things that trump music.

So it might just be bad timing.

Just do it under the table and it's all good. If all else fails, chug that sparkling cider!

lol.

well the window of submitting is drawing to a close so get your submissions in while you can!

We got 4 judges so far: me, realmguys, milkman dan and Evil-dog. I am willing to recruit one more but you have to be a fairly prominant or talented musician on newgrounds (helps maintain an air of sophistication and a confidence that they will judge well)

So april's proposed contests are as followed:

Uplifting contest
Dubstep contest run by Brokendeck - I will not be judging it or taknig any part in it.

He still has to confirm if he is still going to do it - I have a feeling tom hasn't been responding to the other users who have proposed their contest ideas to him..

Funnily enough Dubstep and Uplifting can't get any more polar opposite while still being a bit of a dancey/technoish genre. So I think I will cement the first 3 months per year as follows:

January: Orchestral NAC
February: 8-bit NAC
March: Celtic NAC
April: Light and Dark NAC (2 nacs of opposing styles)

mays NAC I am thinking.. acapella..

and yeah I'm thinknig a bit ahead here.. but nothnig goes on in may anyways, and acapellas are so cool.. like

Zombie Jamboree - that song is actually what gave me the idea- nothnig but claps and voices.. and yet it sounds so awesome.

lemme know what you guys think. Remember my goal here is to take you outside your comfort zones and try something wacky and new :)

I would love an "acapella" (i.e voice/body-centric) contest. But only if I can still use all sorts of other sounds as long as the acapella thing is what stands out.

all sounds have to be recorded dude- otherwise it's not an acapella.

using other "sounds" is a crutch and I am trying to get you guys away from using crutches (autotune, vocoders, etc etc) in the contests - I wanna see what YOU can do - not what you can program to do for you.

well you'll have your chance.. in may.

Unless Tom notifies me that he wants a newgrounds themed contest, then that will possibly override any ideas I have.

Don't make the May contest an Acapella one, that will automatically zero out anyone without a microphone.
Why not make it an 'End of the World' theme or maybe a 'Weekend' Theme and people interpret what they would like.

lol when did they make YOU an audio mod..?

also everyone has a mic in this day and age - and if you don't just plug your headphones into your mic jack and speak into that - I hear it works.

Now this is just my opinion, but A Capella just doesn't sound that interesting. How about, "Gnarls Barkley on LSD" or "Dubstep From a 70's Porno"? Those are themes that allow for a lot of interpretation and would yield some very interesting results.

enough with the dubstep already - you get your one dubstep contest in april.

also I provided an acapella example in the "zombie jamboree" - now you can't tell me that doesn't sound awesome - cuz it does.

you people need to learn to be more imaginative and work with constraints. That's the whole point of a contest.

You think I like dubstep? Because I don't. I hate it. As you said yourself, "you people need to be more imaginative and work with constraints." Well, there you go: shut up, be more imaginative, and work to the constraints of "70's Porn Dubstep."

also I provided an acapella example in the "zombie jamboree" - now you can't tell me that doesn't sound awesome - cuz it does.

I've heard better. And I don't like Rockapella; call me old school, but I prefer barbershop quartet melodies.

You've gotta be shitting me if you're trying to say that "Gnarls Barkley on LSD" isn't imaginative.

I'm only cool with this if it's themed in a way to make a more challenging goal. For instance, a dubstep song that is supposed to represent april fools day, or a 4/20 / reggae themed dubstep.

Something that isn't going to spawn a bunch of random generic dubstep.

I won't participate in that but it's not like I'm going to vote no just to not let you dubstep guys have a contest. But only if it's going to be in paralel with the other contest Chron is thinking of.

'xactly my fear.

I think we should make a dubstep contest where you have to make ORIGINAL dubstep - not commercial dubstep, or filthstep, or brostep, or spikrodd's bastardized "dumbstep".

just make good, talented, enjoyable to listen to music.

and yes it would run parallel with the Uplifting NAC but in itself wouldn't be a NAC. Brokendeck convinced me to put it under the "SNAC" category wasn't fairfyone who wanted their own slice of the contest hosting pie, and I agree.

however if brokendeck doesn't get a response from TOM I'll simply tell him that we are having the 2 contests when I send him the results from this contest and see what he says.

The last thing I want to do is give the impression i've taken this show over entirely.

THE NACS ARE MINE THOUGH - ALLL MIEN >:)

oldschool early 90s rap.. so like.. artists liek L L COOL J, mc mix a lot, public enemy #1, kris kros, will smith and all those fun artists, make funny corny rap, with LOTS OF SCRATCHING WITH THE WIZZAOUS AND THE PEACE UP HOMEFLY

Advertising-themed NAC? It's a three part process:
1) Write a some advertising music (think of anything from the iPhone jingle, to the corny music behind those infomercials that look like they were filmed in the 1970s)
2) Invent a completely useless and/or superfluous household product
3) Using your music, create a radio advertisement for your product

*Finished product must be at least 35 seconds long, but cannot be longer than 90 seconds.*

It doesn't force anyone to write in a specific style (admittedly there are some styles of music that work better than others), but it requires people to be imaginative and creative within the constraints of the contests.

still waiting on 2 judges.. I am giving them until 5:00 my time - if they don't get me results by then I will post the results with the judges results that I have.. because really.. everyone was given plenty of notice of timelines so if they can't follow through then that is their issue, not mine.

the thing is it mucks up the process if I wait any longer.. because if I wait too long then I don't have enough tiem to make next months contest.. which then delays the notification to tom of the contest with the link to the thread and also the link to the results thread so that he can give them their store credit, as well as notification to the mods to frontpage the winners, as well as work on the sigs for the winners.

so yes, in future, if you are gonig to agree to be a judge, please take it seriously.
