Cutting your fingernails too short

I don't cut my nails, but I assume it's the same feeling as when you bite your nails too short. I hate when I start to bite my nail, and then I realize I've taken off too much, and can't finish.

Yeah. Best thing to do is stick a plaster over it. It's worse when there's a part hanging off and you know that if you pull it off it'll hurt even worse, so you have to be careful not to rip it out on some clothes or something.

I don't cute my nails at all, but I do bite them and I know the pain. When you get it too far down in the skin and the air starts to hit it your nail will burn like crazy. I still can't give up on biting my nails though.

I often bite my finger/toe nails until they bleed.
It's painful to tear them off, but satisfying once they're off, so I'm not that bothered.
It's when the piece of nail you're taking off snaps and you only get 3/4 of it, leaving a tiny amount that you can't grip enough to pull out, whilst at the same time hurting like hell. That's what I hate.

i frequently hit my nails, and since they're on the longer side, they tend to crack at about a quarter of the way down my nail, so it's in skin territory.

You are correct. I don't know what the reason for that is but it might be because the feet are used to taking a lot of impact, with us walking everywhere and thousands of years ago as primates we would have been walking over rocks and stones, so I imagine the toes have developed a higher tolerance for pain.
