4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsHey guys. I'm looking to improve my artistic side so it can work well with my animation-side. Right now I've been working on outside scenery backgrounds and nature in general. Right now my biggest qualm that I've been trying to solve is adding dimension to fields, and finding an effective way to draw grass. I'll be taking comments, advice and criticisms.
Here is something I did a recently

not bad at all! my only complaint is that on the right side of the drawing it looks like the river is going up a hill. also, try to experiment with levels. as in making the things far away more dark, or lighter, than what is closest.

How serene and relaxing...
Oh yeah, back to criticism: Colors are good, I love the swirl on the rock :D, looks realistic, mmhmm...
Well, you're off to a great start!
On the picture itself, There's a lot of negative space on the top/sky. Everything is clustered at the bottom, rocks, tree, river, mountain, etc... but there's nothing in the sky (im not sure that's a cloud...)
I have problems drawing grass too.
Thanks for the replies so far guys, I'm going to edit the mountain and fade it out a little bit, the background forest is saturated/tinted more than the foreground but I didn't do anything with the mountain to make it look far away I'll hope to it and post an update. Meanwhile, here is another drawing I did recently:

again, not bad. but try to make the trees in the foreground darker, it will make that castle(?) stand out more.

Added something extra to the background, wanted to make the trees look like they had a place on the rocks so I added greenery on them.

You need to add some shading on the road, because it looks rather flat at the moment.
How would I? I mean again, texture and stuff is something I'm having trouble with.

Well, firstly, the mountainside would be casting a shadow on the road.

I'm having such a tough time doing that right now. Can someone give me a visual tip?

No, I think the bars on the right would cast a bit of a shadow, but as for the mountain side, it looks like the light source is coming from the top right.

Actually, now that I look at it, there doesn't really seem to be a distinct light source in the picture....
Light is generally coming from the top right, but its the son so its light expands a lot of different places.

I've been really doing a lot of my drawings with flash since I'm an animator but I want to dwelve into PS too as I see you can make some amazing looking stuff with the brush tool. This a good way to start? Making a rough frame of the picture and taking it into PS and trace/paint it?

My 1st true attempt at Photoshop. It's a conceptual drawing.

Meh, forget Photoshop 'painting'. I'm going to stick to what I do best: animation.

This one is new for me. I drew a character with actual abs. Something that was extremely difficult in the past...it still is but now I'm finally 'getting' it.

The cliffside is very neat, as are all of your works, good feel to it and good realistic feel aswell, seems like you have a while castle side here and so on.
Anyways nice work, keep it up.
