Does anyone know where I can get some background music for an inspirational speech-type overlay? Preferably short--I only have ~40 secs of content.

Well, newgrounds has tons of that. Just depends what kind you want. If you want inspirational orchestral music, look in orchestral. Ambient can be used for background. Or just look up background in the AP search bar. Then just cut down your music with a program like Audacity.

Strychnine and cyanide. A healthy part of this complete breakfast.

That's exactly what I want, but the AP doesnt have an orchestral section. I just want to know of any (royalty-free) sites that might have what I'm looking for.

And I tried Fruity Loops but it can't make an orchestral song worth its weight in crap--at least, not at my ability level.

Orchestral music here is incorrectly labeled as classical. Unless you are like me and throw it into the miscellaneous genre. But for the most part look in the classical genre. That is where the majority of orchestral music lies.

If you find nothing there then you could check the misc genre as well. But outside of me and maybe 1 other person I know of everything in their is quite experimental. So it's pretty hit or miss.

Also, this would be a royalty free site. All you have to do is credit the artist(s). But like you said, finding what you need is somewhat difficult with the current structure of things.

Hope this helped, and good luck.
