It was a pretty good show, but nothing worth mourning over, especially considering that:

Yeah. So if you want to lament a brilliant cartoon that was tragically cut down in its prime, let's talk about Invader Zim.

i liked that show, it was controversial but for me it was a border-line, instead of watching Spongebob Squarepants and then immediately transitioning to watching scrubs Billy and Mandy was a middle ground, it was like the show "big kids" for me at the time.

Really? The way I see it, Spongebob has way more appeal for adult viewers than Billy and Mandy ever did. Though I guess that when you're a young adolescent you don't really see it that way and it's just about surface-level darker subject matter.

There really isn't enough quality programming for that "border-line" audience on any of the kids' networks, and it's a shame. Kids are basically thrown into the wild to fend for themselves once they're about 13 or so, and that's how you end up with either vapid fad-chasers who consume whatever the biggest corporations put in front of them or irritating hipsters-in-training who can only like things from decades before they were born, with almost no in-between.

At 12/20/10 09:28 PM, WeHaveFreshCookies wrote: Cartoon Network got tired of being good. They wanted to try being shitty for a while.

Nah, I think that was in the early-mid '00s. Right now, Cartoon Network has actually become pretty high-quality again, especially when you compare it to the other two major kids' networks. And in my opinion, at least, there's one current show on CN that just might be the best in the network's history, and is easily the best new cartoon I've seen since Zim was cancelled (though I was mostly a Nickelodeon kid, so maybe my opinion isn't all that well-informed). Sure, there are still a handful of crappy shows, but that's always going to be the case.

Because it should have been on adult swim to begin with.

I say it was ok, but it ran just a bit longer than it should have. Near the end all you could see was director trying to put as many dick jokes as he could in the show without being caught.

Also one Fred Fred Burger ep. was enough.

I honestly think the reason why CN isnt producing as popular is because they are focusing way to much on cliche action, Take Ben 10 for example, Every show that I have seen besides a few are almost knockoffs (Generator Rex, Titan Maximum, Ben 10 Ultimate Alien, Clone wars, etc)

really my favorite shows that are currently on are Regular Show and Adventure Time.

I really liked Chowder, Flapjack. But I especially loved some of the older shows like Courage the Cowardly Dog (better than Invader Zim by a longshot). I used to love Ed Edd n Eddy(they live on a couldesac there is no need for a highschool), but it kind of went down the drain kind of like a some shows on Nickoleodeon, mainly, Spongebob and Fairly Oddparents (the baby was the worst idea imagined)

It will have its good years and bad years.

I agree, I remember my favorite episode being the one with the Time Controlling remote, along with the Valhalla one.

Personally my favorites were the "9 wishes" (that we just saw) the one with Cthulu, and all the ones with fred fred burger, especially the court episode with Scooby doo in it. Anybody remember that one? There were so many great ones like the nose wizard and the haunted house (there are lots yes but figure it out) and the boogie man, however the one that sticks with me the most is the Cthulu episode and the beatboxing monster and apocalypse.

I think I need to start watching Regular Show. Is it actually as good as Adventure Time, or do people just lump them together because they share a time slot?

Courage the Cowardly Dog (better than Invader Zim by a longshot).

How are the two shows even slightly comparable, aside from the fact that they both liked to get into some creepy and grotesque shit? One is a kids' show like any other with darker sensibilities, the other is pretty much the most subversive thing ever allowed on children's television.

Fairly Oddparents (the baby was the worst idea imagined)

Wait, there's a fucking baby? Man, I haven't watched that show in a long, long time. I've heard that they're doing some kind of live-action TV-movie version of it. Now that is the worst idea imaginable.

I think its a cool show, I honestly like the idea that they use some 80's reference and they arent breaking the fourth wall.

Courage the Cowardly Dog (better than Invader Zim by a longshot).

I always thought CTCD was better when it had to do with the supernatural and creepyness because it wasnt so obvious on trying to be edgy. In some episodes some of the characters would be eaten, or killed in some way but not a gorey explosion type of way like Invader Zim. Hell in one episode Muriel is about to be lunch for some spiders.Heck I even consider way better than The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Invader Zim was trying to hard to be edgy.

Fairly Oddparents (the baby was the worst idea imagined)

I can see where you're coming from there, as sometimes Zim's whole aesthetic can be so scuzzy that it makes me nauseous, but I think it might have just been a natural result of Jhonen Vasquez's art style as opposed to a deliberate attempt to be edgy. But I wasn't even really talking about the show's visuals so much as its incredibly pitch-black humor and complete avoidance of just about every cliched rule of children's television (well, aside from "poop is funny"). I mean, the most sympathetic and likable character on the show was a robot with severe mental disabilities.

Though now that I think of it Courage was actually pretty edgy in its own right, too. It's just that I feel like Zim was actually not for children.

Yea apparently its Wanda and Cosmos baby (spoiler alert) Cosomo is pregnant. talk about absolute preggy fetish mindfuck.

Huh...actually that sounds kind of clever, though they must have fucked it up in the execution somehow.

It melded dark humor, goofy slapstick comedy, and overall silliness into an awesome show. I loved it! They show it once in a while. But not nearly enough.

It was a good show and all but it ran its course. Cartoons usually get replaced by other cartoons to keep everything fresh.

OMFG I loved the original first episodes, before they changed his voice.

They even replaced some of the original episodes with the newer voice. I guess it was a copyright issue with Microsoft or something.

Adult Swim's fanbase is composed mostly of drooling retards who simply love any shit show they air regardless of how completely shit it is.

They get paid big money by some of these shows to air their garbage. ...while other shows... which are not shit... they have to pay for.

So when they use a popular series to carry 4 shit series, its just a matter of time before something gets cancelled.
