Should I get a 360? 2010-12-20 16:54:30 Reply

Ok so first off when I buy it'll be used, Since I bought my PS3 used for 250$ a year ago , And it still works perfectly to this day.

But why should I get an xbox 360, besides the fact I can get exclusives.

The PS3 and xbox game library is pretty much made up of the same games. If you REALLY need to play an xbox exclusive, then buy an xbox, otherwise just spend your money on games or something. Besides, the xbox has a terrible 2011 line-up.

I'd say go for a Wii instead, since it actually has a lot of games that you can't already play on your PS3.

Get a wii, i highly recommend it, Xbox already has alot of the games PS3 has anyways, the exlusives are fun, im a sucker for L4D2 but i like wii, not because im wearing nostalgia blinds, but because the wii is a good way to go if you just had too much of FPS games, best of all Wii realizes something game developers don't on other consoles, colors exist!
Not saying that i hate FPS games but i like to have some variation, guess thats why i like more of the old school style games like Scott Pilgrim and pixel junk shooter and whatnot.

if you get a wii i suggest Sonic colors, Donkey kong country returns and Mario bros. (Sonic colors being my favorite so far since Sega didn't fuck up this time)

I'm just a dreamer.

Ha, PC gaming is a very specific form of gaming thats not for everyone, like its great like guns n roses but not everyone loves em.

Anyways, you get with the 360 ALL 3 Mass Effect Games, (ME1 was published by microsoft so it wont likely be released for the PS3, although ME2 was published by EA and its going to be released on the PS3, thats widely known and confirmed) which is really cool because you can import your custom story from ME1 to ME2 then to ME3 when its released next year ( like november i think) their each like 30 hours though

Also, you can only play the Fable games on the 360, (Fable I was released on the xbox I its backwards comptabile, you might wanna read a bit up on that on xbox.com) their shorter, but their also RPGs.

Allllso, you get the better version of The Orange Box ( the ps3 version is known to be buggy) 3 of the 5 awesome games that it comes with (4 single player, 1 multiplayer - all exclusive to their format) have developer commetary.

other than that the majority of the great xbox 360 games are also on the ps3.

peeeeeace

You should get an Xbox if your into the online aspect of gaming, whilst live has many other features, not all of it is available depending on the country/state you live in. Live is undoubtedly the better online experience with much better servers and features, and its reasonably cheap. $60 a year really is nothing to complain about . The Exclusives are good, but that's only reason to get it if you like the halo's, fables, mass effects, Alan wake, gears of war, and basically a great line up of really, good games.

Even though the line-up for 2011 so far isnt 'great' there is still some great games that are going to be released. Eg Mass Effect 3. But, dont forget that there are many. many amazing games already out.

A downside to the Xbox is that a few, literally a few, games use more than the 1 disc. While it might seem annoying to change them half way through, its not really that much of a problem IMHO.

Ok, this is a 'you get what you pay for' things. You cant complain what you get for the $60 spent on LIVE for a year. Sure, PSN is free, but the servers and online experience in general is terrible in comparison.

Search Google for info on the servers. The PS3 Servers just cant cope, while the xbox servers seem to do fine. While it does depend a lot on the game, an example is the Blops server. My friends with the xbox have no issues, friends with ps3 are always complaining.

Directly comparing Xbox Live and PSN, both have pros and cons.

XBL is 60 dollars, but with that includes, a moderated service, reliable servers for games, party chat which allows you to talk with friends while playing games (even if you're playing different games), a free headset, and it's generally easier to navigate.

PSN has the pro of being free and having a big library of downloadable games, but in my experience, especially on bigger games, the multiplayer was buggy at best. I remember not being able to play Killzone 2 when it first came out because it kept kicking me out of games. Black Ops also still has problems with online even a month after release. You have to buy a blue tooth headset separately, and there is no party chat.

Personally, I would say go for the Xbox if you plan on taking it online with friends a fair bit. Otherwise, stick with a PS3 for more exclusives and slightly better graphics on multiplatform games.

That's if the devs at least try to give a fuck about doing a good port of a 360-based game to the PS3.

Or if they develop first on the PS3 and then port to the 360.
Both seem to be really uncommon.

You're telling me that Xbox gets the server money from subscriptions ? They get it from the ridiculous advertisements. Steam has great servers and all its money comes from game profits, same as Microsoft. They make more money off ads than off users. And your friends are retarded. If you take the opinion of a CoD fan, and a CoD fan xbox especially, with a grain of salt, then you are retarded.

I don't get any of these 'ridiculous' advertisements. So I haven't got a clue what you are talking about, the advertisements they have for their own products, or DLC for their own products, on the welcome tab? If that's what your are complaining about, then I don't see whats so ridiculous about them? And I never said that the $60 a year all goes to paying for those servers, I simply said that it help get the servers and keep them up. It would be silly not to think so. I'm saying that the $60 a year is worth it, its no hefty price. I'm happy to pay $60 to get the good stable online play, good voice chat with my mates, great games both downloadable and retail, and reasonably priced DLC. And steam is in, in a way, a different discussion again. PC gaming, be it the game themselves or the servers, is a lot cheaper than console gaming. This, in my opinion, is because of the lack of players ( i'm not saying there are none, just not as many people play PC compared to console) on the PC because the games are to powerful for their computers, don't have the internet to sustain playing or even download the game ( if they are downloading). They also might have an xbox/ps3, and would prefer to play it on the console( I prefer consoles because of the shenanigans that go on with some onlien gaming). With less people on PC's, keeping the prices down in general ( both retail and online) is a way to keep people playing the PC games. And probably to due to the 'lack' of PC gamers, the servers don't go under as much strain as the server may on ps3 or xbox. So, companies such as steam, can use the money they have collected through selling games to pay for servers that may not need to be as powerful, nor as expensive. I have nothing against steam, i believe they are a wonderful company with great prices and to an amazing job at supporting indie game developers. Its not that i cant play the games, I just prefer consul gaming, mainly because people i know would rather spend a few hundred dollars on an xbox than a few thousand on a good computer.

Also, Don't call my friends retarded, or myself for that matter. What makes an xbox CoD player/fan worse than a Ps3 fan? I've noticed among all the ps3 owners, they just love to bash the xbox and its players, I haven said any horribly demeaning words about the ps3(In my own experiences, my Ps3 owning friends will always find ways to belittle the xbox, while on the other hand, my xbox friends shrug it off and don't really say anything against it. I personally have found xbox live to have a much more mature 'community' while there are the 'squeakers' and the other A**wipes who spend all their days giving other players shit for no reason. But you find them everywhere. The only 'bad' things I have said directly about the ps3 is about their game servers, and its not because I hate ps3 and want drop shit on them, its because its true. The servers are bad, in comparison, but not unplayable.

Back to the CoD fans. My friends that own cod, aren't necessarily massive CoD fans who hate every other game. They just happen to own the game, and enjoy playing it now and then. While I have never heard my xbox friends complain about the connection on this particular game, Blops, for Ps3 loving friends its their main complaint. This was, undoubtedly a bad choice in a game, but its purpose was to show that the xbox game servers are better. And it did so. I never used this as an excuse to say that " xbox servers are pro, ps3 are shit." I was implying, for the topic creator, if he very much enjoys his online gaming, then he should probably go for the xbox if he was fine paying for the online subscription.

While this has turned into a PS3 v.s Xbox topic, I'm going to try and keep whats left of the original topic here. I'm not looking for an argument, while I have replied with argumentative posts, my original purpose was to try and persuade him to get the xbox, as in my opinion, it is better of the two consoles. While I may have triggered sparks, I'm not looking for anymore arguments between the two consoles( or PC gaming), this topic is supposed to help him choose whether to keep his ps3 or spend the money on buying the xbox. Can we leave it at that? just peoples persuasive opinions? thanks.

I was just talking to a friend about this, and I came to this conclusion:

There is absolutely no reason to own an XBOX 360.

Okay, that may be an overstatement. Reasons technically exist. I mean, they're there. However, I can't possibly figure out why someone would choose an XBOX 360 over the other systems. What exclusive games does the 360 have? I can barely name any, and the ones I can name, I have no interest in playing. Likewise, I find the 360's library of exclusives to be fairly bland. The PS3 and Wii seem to have more creative, and interesting games. Naturally, the PC tops all three.

Would I recommend buying a 360? No. There are too many things wrong with the system (protip: I'm not talking about the hardware malfunctions) to warrant a purchase.

If you allready have a ps3 then don't bother, that money would go better towards a PC upgrade, and DON'T DOUBT YOURSELF WITH THIS! It's really much more simple to upgrade your PC (and even building one from scratch) than it sounds (trust me I was in the same boat, did not know anything about PC upgrades, but a little research brings you a long way), if you absolutely MUST have the 360 exclusives, buy the cheapest model you can get and get the cheapest hard drive you can. PS3 has come a long way from it's release going from a flop to what I consider the second best gaming machine you can buy right now (first is PC).

Cheating? I like to call it strategic opportunity.
