This image I'm particular proud of. I have never really been able to properly draw a proper head but, for some reason this just seems decent to me. Any criticizm is welcome. :D

Its a start in the right direction, could you some smoothing around the corners and some more shading but its a start.

first thing i noticed about your picture is that you cropped the figure at the ankles. this is a no-no, so don't ever do that again. obviously the anatomy needs work, and you should probably work out a good sketch to figure out your proportions and pose before you start drawing it with computer lines. fell your own collar bones and then look at the ones you drew on your figure. i'm not going to criticize the style you've chosen to work in so i guess that's all i will say.

Thank both of you for your feedback, after i started to look at it more closely I realized there were alot of things about it that were wrong. The shoulders just look out of proportion to me and the feet as well. This is my first real try at any type of female body and face so I guess I cant expect much. As for the shading I have no idea where to start, I did try to add a little to it but it just seems wrong to me, even though I left it like it was, but once again thanks for your constructive criticism.

Here are a few sketches, I was trying a different style as per threadwoods suggestion. I think i like it alot more. To me it seems like this style has more substance than the plane ol' anime type.

Those are an improvement from the old face, but holy fuck her eyelashes are long!
Also, the sideview is still messed up.
Did you look at any refs?
If yes, pay more attention to the details and think about the differentces in shapes and sizes and lengths and whatnot.
If no, then look at some refs. :|

Thanks for your post, I looked at a few refrences but couldent really find any good ones. I am also having a problem with the shape of the face, it always come out looking too manly to me or too sharp, i just cant seem to get it down. Indeed her eyelashes are long but I figured that would give the eyes more of a girly effect O.o. Anyway thanks for your feedback, I will def look for more refrences. :)

Hello,

I'd really like to see some sketches of these characters, preferably on paper. At least to get the motions down, etc. Draw through with the shapes, then go back and clean up. If it doesn't look right, draw it again and again until you're satisfied. If you like the style you're pushing now, then that is fine too.

I wish you well,
-mm

( PS, don't look at the face construction too carefully. I've been drawing anthro toon cats for the past week for an animation >.> Take the body with a grain of salt as well )

I don't use pencil and paper, but I do sketch. I use Adobe Flash and only Adobe Flash, before I draw the lines for the final I'll make a rough outline with the brush tool, then go over it with the pen tool. Like a sketch. I also use a mouse which can be difficult at times.

Other then that any tips on my anatomy? Is she out of proportion? I have really been trying to get a good perspective on it. Its difficult.

Under all the clothes and armor I can't really make anything of the anatomy. Could we see just a plain body? If you have a solid body structure then the problem lies in the creation of accessories on top. (The clothes flatting out the form)

Reason I asked for a pencil sketch is when you draw with a mouse you really can't have a natural feel when roughing out a character. This would also prove you have the basics of form down and you're just having difficultly breaking the "traditional to computer through mouse" barrier.

Also, I believe anatomy and proportions are relative to the artist and their creation's world. Could you specify what realm these characters reside? Toon? Fantasy? Anime? Fantasy-Anime? Etc.

Well... yes. Something that may help you is finding a picture of someone positioned in the same way you want your character to be and then just pasting the image onto a separate layer on your canvas. Don't trace, obviously, but just have it there next to your sketch so that you can line things up. It's not cheating at all, really, since it's just the digital equivalent of holding a photo next to your sketchbook.

Here are some anatomy tutorials and resources here.

I want to note something about the above tutorials, though. Using the commonly-referred-to "rule" that says a character's body should be eight heads high almost without fail makes my characters' bodies too long. That's why it's important to work from reference.

I'll point out some things that are inaccurate about this drawing. The shoulders are far too broad, the head is too small, the nose/mouth need to be raised up higher on the face, the arms don't have the foreshortening to suggest that they're crossing in front of the torso instead of in the middle, the head is much longer than it is wide, you need more foreshortening on the feet to make them look like they have form, the waist is too low, etc.

All proportions are based in reality even if they're distorted. To properly have abnormal proportions, you first have to be solid in drawing normal proportions, which is why starting with anime is generally not the best rout for most people. These sorts of tethers back to reality are what separate a character that is purposefully strange-looking from one that is just out of proportion.
