I have a cousin in the Army that thinks that if there are gays are allowed to be openly gay in the military that it would make the Army less boring.

Have you ever met a marine who did care?

I've met a few that were "concerned" but it comes down to military law. If our Commander in Chief signs it into law, we have to follow it, regardless of our personal beliefs and all who break the law will be reprimanded accordingly.

For me, I look at it this way; if your comfortable defending the rights for someone to be gay, but don't want a gay person to help defend those rights, then perhaps they're more deserving to be in the military than you.

By the way. You don't speak for the whole Corps.

Most marines are pretty much not okay with this.

Neither do you, but I'm sure as active duty I have a much better perception than you do, reservist.

If you want to look at the poll results yourself, and you'll see its a split decision across the board, but just like everything in the military, you bitch about then carry on with the rest of your day.

As a former submariner (aside from the "bunch of dudes stuck in a steel phallic object" jokes), I am all for something that increases the number of willing and competent volunteers. You can be as gay or as straight as you need to be; just as long as you're on the watchbill. I'm sure the linguistics community would love to have some more help after they had the couple of high-profile cases in which some of their members were outed.

In every logical sense, there's no argument whatsoever that can prove that the allowance of an openly gay member in the military will affect their performance or cohesion. Of course, allowing former drug users, alcoholics, parents, hyper-political or religious individuals, etc. are allowed in such high numbers, although a lot can be said that all of those cause more issues than sexual orientation.

I forget though; it's really icky and disgusting. Ugh.

This didn't need to be it's own topic at all.

But it's very good to hear a military person standing up for the rights of his fellow soldiers.

Thank you for your service.
