I doubt they'll be able to re-enlist, a dishonorable discharge is a dishonorable discharge, regardless of a post hoc change in policy.
although from what I remember most discharges were actually honorable, but I could be wrong

Sorry to double post, but I forgot to mention that the Democrats in the Senate were assisted by 8 Republicans in the passage of this bill, and that the Pentagon survey which was recently made public was crucial in the success of the repeal, as it showed that most servicemen and women were OK with the repeal of DADT. Wonderful isn't it?

Those numbers are a tad bit skewed, you know. They polled members of our nations reserve military AND spouses of active duty military personal along with the active duty soldiers (click). So I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in what the poll says. In fact, I'm willing to bet it won't be to long before we have an ACLU lawsuit filed against our military by an openly gay serviceman/woman for sexual discrimination.

Rush doesn't air on the weekends. It will be Monday before he gets to it.
Having an organisation systematically use threats of violence/imprisonment to extort funds = A-OKAY LOL
Not being able to access these funds as part of a welfare-whore military job because of your sexuality = BIGGEST INJUSTICE EVER
fucking retards

It's still Saturday according to EST, though not for long. GMT+ time zones however are experiencing the future, TODAY!

We need people to sit around with guns and proper training, you know, so we aren't vulnerable to militant organizations and what have you. Not that I'm in favor of the massive spending or the invading of other countries the military has been doing.
And the military is about much more than combat, do I need to mention the relief work the military does?

now to count down the days until the ACLU begins filing lawsuits because some openly gay pretty boy tries to rub it in the face of a real man and gets his ass kicked for it.

I doubt a pretty boy could make it in the military.

Meh, I don't think we have to worry *too much* about the ACLU, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get a case or 2 as a result of this repeal.

Yeah invading countries makes us safer

What percentage of "defense" spending goes towards relief work?
Less than 1%?
Even though DADT is offically repealed, I don't think it will be as a big of a civil rights sweep as most people would expect. Certain recruiters are still going to find loopholes or excuses to use and exploit to keep a gay guy out of the military, or possibly be discriminated from a certain function or unit, but in a much more subtle way, which is rather unfortunate to say.
It wouldn't surprise me if there are some lawsuit by a homosexual man or woman, with the ACLU's help of course, against a certain armed branch who denied them the ability to serve in the military, or was discriminated in the front lines blantantly, if in uniform currently.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

You're missing the point ENTIRELY. The U.S. military is constantly involved in relief efforts around the world at the request of those countries that feel they need some serious help, as well as in domestic situations here. It's not like our military does little in the realm of "relief work".

the US Army Corps of Engineers went to the red river valley where I live when the flood hit an d hlp dike up and make barricades in the area.
Many active militaries in the world allow gays to serve openly and have yet to suffer for it. DADT was needless bureaucracy and I approve of the repeal.
This is a wonderful victory for civil rights in america.
Everything else that I didn't like being posted here has already been addressed so I'll just stick with the happy.

Don't reservist have a voice in this too?
Besides, from my experience the Marines aren't fucking okay with this.

You are perpetuating the stereotype that all gay men are queens. Yeah, that's not true.
I've met plenty of plain spoken gay men before. You also have a total misunderstanding of what gay people are like. Most of them don't go after men who they know are straight and it's a different dynamic when you are in the military.
Besides, you don't need the ACLU. Both their asses will get NJP'd for that nonsense.

The relief efforts could, in all likelihood be sustained by donations alone.
And I hardly think open homosexuality is considered a problem by anyone (in the military) when it comes to relief work.

Maybe, but military assistance is more convenient and expedient in my opinion.

You'd be surprised, considering the DADT supporters would likely reject what you just said here completely.

Yeah my point is that the dude was trying to justify state coercion with relief work, and I'm saying that it can be privately funded.
You'd be surprised, considering the DADT supporters would likely reject what you just said here completely.
Isn't the whole point of DADT that the discomfort caused by the homosexuals (can) affects combat performance?

In that case, you're right.

Yes, but in general, DADT supporters say that troops can't be open about their homosexuality if they are indeed homosexual because it would affect military unit cohesion, which may include combat performance, but is not limited to that role. They think it'll harm military cohesion and readiness in any role for the most part.
"I'm trying to deliver these food parcels to these citizens but I can't with this FAGGOT working next to me!"
That's something a DADT supporter would use as evidence. ;)

Well, maybe that person will have to suck it the fuck up and deal with it. If people can deal with it in their civilian jobs then our military is more than capable of dealing with it on duty.
I'm gay and I know I can make a better soldier than these pansy ass heterocentrics with false-masculinity who get shell shock after their tour of duty.
Truth.

Maybe you would, idk, but im not defending it.

I'm guessing this is the same argument they could have used/ have used for:
- keeping women out
- keeping black people out
- keeping atheists out
Basically we should prevent some people from having rights because we can't expect some other group of people to respect those rights? Idiotic.
That's basically blackmail / borderline terrorism to go "well I can defend you but if you let gays in my unit, maybe some people will die as a result of our distraction!".
Dicks. I'm all for forcing progressiveness onto bigotted idiots. Why wait 40 years until all of them die of old age before we let everyone else finally be free of their stupidity?
