Just wondering. I'd like to start making some Kaskade style leads. Just for fucks. How would I begin this process? It sounds easy, just some layered octaved saw synths, maybe a 7th in there for shits n' gigs, but how do I get that infamous filter sound? You know, the Thump-Thump-Thump-KindaNotaThump-KindaNo taThump-KindaNotaThump-FullSustainLead-F ullSustainLead-FullSustainLead sound. That makes so much sense to me, I hope it does to you, haha. Let me link you to a Youtube song for further examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQTedx7l8 wg
Not a fan of the song too much, but it gets my point across. Any pointers?

It is easy, and if you are asking how to do this, you need to quit music.
That is my pointer.

I think sytrus is spectacular for that sounding pluck/synth(for fl studio users). Mainly due to its overall sound and cpu heavy unison options.
In that specific song, to me it sounds like a standard semi sined saw pluck(tiny bit of filter in the pre).
I have the volume pretty low right now, but in that song it kinda sounds like a synth bell is layerd on the pluck (by synth bell i mean one of those almost pluck sounds but really round and siney).
And then maybe a lower octave quick attack sine for ambiance in the pluck as well? Minor ping pong delay and reverb of course.
I find the hardest part is choosing the pre filter level on your pluck(which is unautamatable and crucial in your sound), and choosing the attack level on your pluck which ultimately decides whether its more short synth or pluck.
On another note does kaskade have any moderately decent songs? Everything ive heard from him has been major bs.

-Take a simple sound and play a simple rhythm/melody (if you consider it that)
-Have your oscillators varied in pitch, in your given example, I think the bass is square, the higher are square sine. Might be wrong, but so long as they aren't sine's you'll be on the right track.
-Tack on delay and reverb.
-Make sure your delay is set to be insynch with the songs beat.
-Automate your synths sustain perameter in the volume ASDR editor for the pluck/sustain sound.
-Play with filter cutoff on top for extra sound morphing. Keep thi subtle, the sustain edit will be hefty.
-Compress (before reverb/delay in your mixer) to keep the volume output relatively high.

I'll let you figure out how to get the particular synth (I would do it through Massive, and I suppose a number of combinations would work) but if you lower the attack just enough to let it give a little without being squishy you can get a similar sort of punch without being abrasive. Also add enough reverb to color the sound but not wash it out.
Tell us how it goes!

I did this up right quickly in FL using purely subtractive synthesis (I don't like to overcomplicate things unless you have to).
I hope this will kind of demonstrate it for you, and you should be able to build upon this and compact it into one channel using sytrus.
The bottom Wasp channel is the meat of the sound, it's a saw wave mixed with a little bit of white noise in order to provide some texture in it, the amp ADSR is set to generate a 'pluck-like' attack, while the filter ADSR takes care of the decay. No modulation was needed for this, other than the autoclip attached to the LP filter.
It's then EQ'd to remove some renegade frequencies, passed through a stereo shaper, reverb and flang'd in order to give it it's spacial appearance.
The top Wasp channel is merely just to fill in some of the empty upper frequencies in order to provide a phatter sound. Should be pretty self explanatory, just had to pass it through an instance of reverb.
I really hope this helps you get started. It's definitely something you can build off of in a more powerful synth such as Sytrus. I only spent about 20 minutes on this, so I'm sure if you devote the time into this patch, you'll come up with something great! If you don't mind though, please post your end result of the patch so we can all examine it! :)
Also, deadmau5 uses the modular beast in the picture below.

Just an fyi, the .flp link requires you have FL 9.07 / up to date software. So beware of crash if you aren't updated.

Yeah, sorry about that, I guess I could've exported it in the stable release, but I mean... What registered FL User in their right mind would not have downloaded the beta (due to all the new features), even if they're not planning on using it for any work.

Every post in this thread is an alt account of myself. Weird that I'm commenting on commenting to oneself.
Hmmm. Maybe I do need help.

It's all in the filter ADSR. Specifically the decay. Period.
You set the cutoff low. Then you modulate the filter envelope's decay, That's it.
You don't even need to mess with the filter frequency itself.
In theory, the decay should increase the amount of time it takes for the filter to move from not being their to being there. This in a nutshell is how a pluck works, A quick drop in cutoff in each note

I like it when people ask a question, then they don't come back, or if they do, they don't thank anyone.

You shouldn't answer questions just to get a thanks in return. Yeah, I should have thanked all the helpful posts here, but, at the time, I had real life shit that distracted me from this thread. I mean seriously, you took the time to PM me, only to inform me of your weak, sarcastic post? Ugh..
Anyways, I won't bitch/moan anymore, don't wanna pour some fuel on a flame war. But now that I have the opportunity, I appreciate all the help everyone has given, and I may respond/bump this thread once I make something worth posting.
Thanks again for the help. You especially Bjra, I want to collab with you soon. Epic chiptune or dubstep track.
Thanks again.

My post was not weak, or sarcastic. I took the time to create a patch, and demonstrate it to you.
This website is full of assholes.
