For those of you who can count, what comes next?
That's right 2010!
(That's all your fingers, even your thumbs! Next year you may have to take off your shoes!)
what kind of freak do you think I am.... I dont have 2010 fingers! maybe 250-260 tops... and that is if you count the ones I salvaged from that dogs stomach.
Sucks, I barely returned to the forums really in the last two months, I feel like my opinions in regard to best any of these is so limited, oh well, I'll still vote
Who is the hunter?
When considering some things, should I also consider how certain people behave in the forum as well?
For instance, when considering "best artist", should people who only post their art and don't do much be considered in as high of esteem as people who post their art AND frequently take part in other parts of the forum?
Feels like a silly question, but I want to be sure since I haven't done this votey thing before.
I have a title I'm not eligible to defend to defend!

Good question.
It's really up to you how to interpret the 'best' of something but my thoughts are that "Best Poster" would be about overall posting habits and "Best Artist" would only consider their art as it relates to the forum. Looking back on previous results you will see that that's how other people have voted.

I should say "Best Art Regular," not "Best Poster." My bad.

Fair enough, but I'd be lying to say that I won't have some sort of bias towards those who more frequently take part in the forum, if simply by virtue that they more easily come to mind.
Thanks for responding. Do the mods vote, as well?
What is a reasonable time to consider someone a new comer? a month? 6 months?

Within 2010, I should imagine, since this is an annual event.

I don't see why we couldn't.

Sorry I keep posting here, but I have another question on this matter:
Is "newcomer" based on coming to this forum or signing up on Newgrounds?
For instance, I didn't start posting until January in this year, but I signed up October of last year. Do I count as a newcomer?
Sorry for the double post.

Newcomer implies art forum posting, not sign up date.
Well, im my opinion.

Don't worry, it's best to get everything sorted out before you cast your votes.
It's coming to this forum, don't worry about sign up date, just try to remember when someone started posting here in Art, if it was in 2010 then they're good for the award.

and besides, I think we can be quite lenient. A couple months before/after isn't that big of a difference.
A rather disgusting-looking git that should have been disposed of ages ago.
Before everyone really starts voting I want people to consider something
do they post ever?
singling you out a bit here riot, since you just made a prime example, but jagondudo simply doesn't post
His art is as awesome as most people think it is, but he really never comes around here other than to win chows

I don't even know how much of riot's vote was real and how much was a joke. Especially cause he voted TOAS as best newcomer.

Related to that Id like to remark that I will not be voting for big-jonny-13, for the single reason that he doesnt post enough art imo. This is an art forum after all, im totally up for fun time and stuff, but I get the feeling that jonny isnt even trying to make art anymore. Doesnt mean I have any problem with him, just dont think he should get an award because of that.

I completely understand what you're getting at here. I really have fallen behind in my art contributions to forum. I want to blame school, but part of it has also been because I've lost some of my drive. I dunno if it's just my lack of improvement, or my lack of inspiration, but I've found it hard to art. That being said, regardless, I still always try to offer as much help as I can to others. So even if I cannot produce art myself, at least I can help others who are.

Toas was the only joke vote I made, but I was serious about Jagon. I checked his post history before I voted. He didn't post a lot, but when he did post, they were in community activities such as Newgrounds art contests or CHOWS. He posted less than a month ago, technically. I don't want to start any commotion, but I think his presence on the forums this year is justifiable...

How could you!
Our relationship is a sham.
Pack your bags.
So I have two points Id like to addres:
1- about the whole jagondudo not being active enough etc... that problem is probably a corollary from the fact that we have "best artist", "best art regular", and "most helpfull poster". Strictly speaking id say that "best art regular" is about quality of art as well as how involved/active he/she is, so it would be weird to consider activity/involvement in the best artist category too. Then again I personally wouldnt vote for jag because he hasnt been active a lot and I do think that counts.... basically I might not agree with the categories.
2- Remember when I said I had two points, well basically I only have one, but its divided in two parts; HERE WE GO! I dont like the "most provocative artist" category. I hate it when artists are provocative just to be provocative (I know how most of you feel about certain performance art). I love it when artists are doing new stuff for an artistic reason, but then I would rate it as "most original artist"... so yeah same problem...

Yeah, I can understand that, but I think being provocative is very important to and for a lot of artists. I, too, don't like art that is provocative simply for the sake of being provocative, but I DO like it when an artist feels unrestrained and pushes the boundaries for the sake of art. It's a fine line to draw, I'll admit, but I think that it's artists who are the people that are often the ones who tackle tough issues through their art before the mainstream is. Jackson Pollock is both admired and loathed as an artist, but is also one of the most influential painters of the 20th century and certainly one of the most provocative.
The categories are here for this year, but that doesn't mean that they are the way they are forever.

I don't get the problem with provocativity. I just saw that I was voted for, and I thought about it. What exactly did I do to push boundaries?
I mean, I carved a face into a pumpkin, I sewed a doll without instructions, making my own clothes and carving on wood. Did I blur the line of what's what? Did I exceed what was imagined and excited?
I don't feel that I did, but was my motivations the things that made me provocative to DNoack? Even it it did, are motivations more important than the final product?
I mean, when you see a drawing do you say "wow art for art's sake" or "wow, they are really pushing themselves?"
I dunno, when I see provocative, I see "the art that excites you" even with the parameters BMK has given. But whatever I dunno, I thought about this in the shower

Speaking of, what about the boring prick award? That's what I was going for.
You're not an asshole, Kinsei. You're probably the closest thing we have to Santa Claus.
Actually, Santa Claus is kind of a dick, now that I brought it up.
I have nothing to say that is at all relevant.
