It pisses me off when people say that entire bands suck just because they're classified as a genre that the person doesn't like. And what's even more frustrating is how many fucking genres people come up with, especially for metal. What the fuck is up with all those "core" genres?

It's better just to listen to a band as a plain and simple band, no genre. If you don't like them, forget about them. If you DO like them, chances are you'll probably like more bands of that same genre, which is where genre is useful. If you dislike many bands that are all the same genre, chances are you probably wouldn't enjoy the rest of that genre, so just don't listen to that genre. It doesn't mean that it's a bad genre, it just means that you personally don't enjoy it.

Genre is NOT meant to a system that lumps music into BAD MUSIC and GOOD MUSIC. There is no such thing as good genres and bad genres; all there is, is personal preference. Opinions. Musical tastes. And we should all stop treating our opinions as if they are facts.

I also think that people over-classify music. There are these huge breakdowns of genres that are just ridiculous. I personally think that there should just be basic genres, which would hopefully prevent all those idiotic arguments that people get into about what genre a band belongs to, but I guess that's just how I would like it, and some people probably like having all those subgenres and shit.

TL;DR - Shut the fuck up and just enjoy music.

Which is why we have different genres. I know its gotten ridiculous lately but we still need them or else every band would be its own genre.

It also helps for recommending music. If you know someone likes a certain type of band you can tell them other bands of that genre.

Also core=/= metal. They're two different genres.
