The Crusaders- voice actors needed! 2010-11-21 21:31:34 Reply

Greetings, newgrounders!

I am currently working on a short 3D animation called 'The Crusaders'. It's set during the crusades and it follows the tale of a knight in a fictional English army that gets decimated in a storm off the coast of the Holy Land, especially what happens when he finds himself and a number of fellow crusaders on shore still alive. The heart of the story is learning religious tolerance and realizing that, as brothers in the Abrahamic faiths, honor is still a similar trait among all good men and women.

Right now I am fine with graphics and music and such, but I don't have any connections to voice actors. I am looking for a mix of accents- British English, Norman (French), and Arabian. The language level will be moderate-low and there will be little or no Middle English (i.e. Shakespeare's language), so you don't need to talk like Romeo. :)

Currently, I don't have any finalized lines to give because the script is still being written, but if you are interested, please record the following line (or half of it if you don't have the time or emotion or just can't figure a part out) given to that accent and either send it to Samulis@live.com or upload them and send me a link in a note. You could alternately record your own line if none of them suit you.

English: "Soldiers; Arab and Angle, Turk and Thane! Today on this battlefield we will right what is wrong. Today on this battlefield we shall make a stand that all posterity shall look at as a stand in the face of evil and the crushing of that evil even when out-manned, out-armed, and overlooked. They may have stone walls and deep cisterns, but we have strong men and more righteousness than any half of them instilled in each one of us! Onward, and let the coward's crown roll!"

Norman: "Sir James, my liege. Aren't we going a little too far siding with these infidels? How can we trust some fancy turk with a fancy hat and robes that shine like rubies? I am sure he stole them from defenseless Christians when the Saracen hordes started attacking pilgrims! That looting Mirza is nothing but another Arab with a cold heart and a solid blade!"

Arabian: "Ghalib, my brave officer, this is merely the beginning of these fools' demise. Day by day we will take in more and more soldiers, and in only a weeks' time we shall have the troops to crush the Stone King of Acre for good. Don't you see why it is good to have crusaders on our side for once? Don't drink your tea all at once, my dear friend, don't drink it all at once."

A thousand thanks,
-Samulis

You decide depending on your talents. All you need to do is read the quoted segment for the general accent you want to voice for. If none of the speeches please you, you are most welcome to do your own with some other lines and I will see if I can find a role using those. There are a fair number of extras and parts in this, so there are plenty of opportunities.

As for delivery, I will include feelings and expressions in the script in parentheses... right now, I would say deliver the English line as a charismatic speech or a battle cry, deliver the Norman one either as if you were having an argument or just pointing something conflicting out to a good friend, and deliver the Arab one either as if you were a teacher pulling aside a student for poor behavior or a wise philosopher telling a man a few tips.

The exact way you deliver isn't what I am looking at mostly; I am looking at accuracy, clarity, and your ability to capture the essence of the way you are delivering it (so if you are angry, I am looking for it to be a realistic, strong, and clear angry). Feel free to really do whatever, I just need something to judge your ability with. :)

NogginmenAnimations, I'll check my inbox immediately and get back to you. :)

I hope this is directed towards me...

In Newgrounds I did the audio SFX and editing for Magical Legend Questie. I also have several well-known classical/medieval songs on the audio portal.

In the realm of 3D, I am a 3D prop and terrain maker. This is my first attempt at a full-scale film, although I have tried to make two short trailer-like films before centered around the colonization of the Americas (although you can hardly call these films).

(sorry about double-posting)

I would like to add that there are still many parts open including both young and old characters. Literally at this stage, anything flies, as the script is not finalized.

Great. :)

It's in modern American English with a slight touch of middle English, so accuracy as for pronunciation and place names are not as important, but there are some bits that use older language and need to be reviewed and such. If you want, I can send you the script in its draft form and let you point out some more severe inaccuracies in the language (such as if I use a misnomer of the Arabs living in the holy land at that time that would not have been of the period). Any help is great. :)

I am always interested in new lines. There are tons of parts that need to be filled.
