I am ashamed that i entered the contest.

What makes this into such a big deal is that it involves quite a bit of money that they are making off of eveyone's work. and NO, they are NOT authorized to be making that money.

I'm a youtube partner, so I know how this works. People who have partner status, such as myself or the people running the contest, are given extra features in our youtube account so we can make profit from the videos we upload. The most important of these features is revenue sharing.

Basically, when a partner uploads a video, they are given an extra form they have to fill out in addition to the one that everyone else gets. I've posted a screengrab of it so you guys can see what I'm talking about. Google asks partners to fill this out extensively and give a detailed explanation of how they actually own the rights to the material. And when I say EXTENSIVELY, I don't mean just writing something simple like "I made everything in the video." Google does not accept that.

Otherwise, it IS possible to simply NOT fill out the form. BUT if that form isn't filled out, then advertisements don't go on the page. It would be like just about every other video you see on the site from normal users.

So, considering that the ads ARE on all of the videos, that means that the basshunter people had to tell google they own EXCLUSIVE rights over the content, because otherwise google would not have accepted the form.

Besides having to fill out the form for each video, partners essentialy have the ability to disable/enable their advertisements with a touch of a button. Google takes this whole deal EXTREMELY seriously. If someone is found to have abused the features of being a youtube partner, their account is automatically up for deletion. Google makes this quite plain once they accept the application, with warnings all over the site to ensure you own ALL of the content.

What basshunter did was NOT authorized, and breached the partner agreement/terms. They did NOT properly attain all of the rights to the material, because their "agreement" which they posted on their blog never specified that we were allowing them to own exclusive rights. It only stated that we would allow them to "publish" the material. "Publish" simply means upload a video to youtube just like any normal user. the second that they enabled the advertisements, they were doing something illegal. And since that point, they've earned a considerable sum I am sure.

For example, my old tutorials managed to earn $229.24 over the course of a few months. That was only with FIVE videos. However, the basshunter contest contains FOUR HUNDRED AND TEN individual songs. EACH SONG is gaining profit from those advertisements. And some of those songs have quite a number of views. So this a very significant problem.

That money was not authorized to them. It belongs to the artists who made the content.

I am very sure that if google were made aware of this, they would not hesitate to take action. We just need to get google's attention and let them know about the situation. After that, google will most likely take care of the rest.

Here is the copyright complaint form. If we get enough people to fill it out, then we should be able to succeed at this.

It happened 2 years ago too, with his 'Remix my song "Russia Privjet" - competition" , he made everyone remix his crap, made everyone set his myspace picture to basshunter's gay face :/ With the promise that the winning song would get released with his new album.

After months of waiting, nobody ever heard who'd won, and everybody realized basshunter was an asshole..

AFAIK this isn't the first time BH is involved in dodgy shit like this either, so I'm not really suprised.

Yes, the winner apparently didn't get a single cent from the web release either(Supposedly that was the only media the remix was released on, so the deal was broken there aswell).

And people wonder what I have had against BH & co these past years.....

well, there were over 400 artists being ripped off, so I think that we would have had a reasonable chance had it gone to the courts. not that it would ever even need to go that far. I'd think their youtube channel would be suspended before then even.

The ads were finally removed, though I'm fairly sure it's only because the people running this comp are a bunch of pussies and can't take ownership for anything.

Over 20 different people commented on their channel, telling those assholes that what they did was wrong. But now those 20 or so comments are gone because basshunter is just covering his ass and is a coward. They deleted as much proof as they could. but no worries, I have%uFEFF it all on my channel and they won't be able to delete that.
