Apologies and misunderstanding 2010-11-21 13:34:47

I've been playing games and watching movies on newgrounds for ages, but yesterday I realised there were forums, and an art section to boot. My wife is a digital artist, she does digital impressionist type work, where she starts with an image on the left monitor and uses the right screen and her graphics program to paint a recreation of the original image. She works tirelessly on her art because she is above all else a giant fan of the subjects she paints. So yesterday I signed up for an account to showcase some of her work and get some feedback. The first piece I put up was her recreation of the Spiderman 2 movie poster. The first responses I got were accusing her of tracing and/or photoshopping the image with filters. She does not do this, and in an attempt to prove that she does not, I grabbed another one of her recreations that I thought was an original composition made of separate portrait shots, I should have asked her first, but I did not want her to know that her art was being slagged off in this forum. Another forum user then pointed out that it was not an original composition. Before I could apologise and point out that I was not trying to steal the credit from the original source, the forum was locked, rightfully flagged as it appeared as that's what was being done.

Let me make it clear, the art posted in the post was my wife's re-creation of someone else's original image, it was not (as I had originally thought) an original composition. I have contacted a forum moderator to have it removed or unlocked so that I could add this, but have had no response, so I want to make it perfectly clear that I was not trying to steal credit, and also, my wife does not use photoshop, or filters in any graphics program, or trace. She works tirelessly on her art and has a great passion for it because she is a fan, just like everyone here. It was my mistake and I apologise for any wrong information that I have given, it was not my intention to deceive.

I'm not sure, but I think the original image came from the pages of a magazine. She reads Empire, Film and a slew of others, like I said, she's a massive fan, but I'm not sure which one it came from. Again, I was only trying to defend my wife and her work because she would be absolutely gutted if she knew what people had said in the forum, in my haste, I made a mistake and it's my fault for not checking facts, so I'm sorry.

You're atrollable, Beertron.
Please don't make pointless threads.

A rather disgusting-looking git that should have been disposed of ages ago.

Okay, so in an effort to get rid of controversy once and for all I overlayed your wifes painting with 50%opacity over the original movieposter
I have to say its one of the cleanest traces I have ever seen.

Just trying to put it right, I'm not trolling, I made an honest mistake and gave a sincere apology, if you don't want to take it, that's on you.

But what I don't like is that there's a locked thread where it appears as though I'm trying to steal credit and give it to someone else for the original composition, that's bad mojo and I've asked a forum moderator and site administrator for it to be deleted or unlocked so I could correct it. Since no action has been taken, I decided to make another post, to publicly declare in the same forum, that by no means was I claiming ownership, or attributing ownership of the original composition to someone other than it's rightful owner.

I've also asked for my account to be deleted as I'm obviously not welcome here and that's fine by me. I'm happy to go back to enjoying all the great content as a non-member, I was just trying to share my wife's art, that's all. Unless there's a compelling reason to do so, I will not post on this site again.

Sorry if you don't feel welcome here, but in fact it's just traces that are not welcome. I had to go through that experience myself when I came here.

Maybe (and only maybe) your wife coloured and shaded the pic herself as well as added the missing part of the foot, but the lines are 100% traced. No matter how good she is as an artist, she can't draw them exactly identical by hand. NO WAY!

Once you get over that and accept our issues, you can still feel welcome here.
