How has maturity disappointed you? 2010-11-16 06:02:28 Reply

I remember when I was a child, I was enamoured with the idea of staying up late enough to describe a meal I partook in as a 'midnight snack'. On at least one occasion I would get up in the middle of the night to eat a biscuit or two to experience this foreign phenomenon.

Now eating in the middle of the night is commonplace to me. It is 12:01am and I am sitting at my desk with a plate of crackers and a glass of coke.

I am living my childhood dream.

How has the long arduous process of growing older disappointed you, Newgrounds? What mystical adult activities have you grown to know the banality of?

I don't think it will be too bad, my dad's becoming a millionaire and giving me a flat.
plus I'm getting a job soon!

Now to just get laid...

Being tall. I always though that being tall would be a wonderful, being able to tower over everyone. It's just a nuisance. Here that, kids? Stay small. Does you no real favours to be big, other then if you're trying to be intimidating.

I just finished school for good. Now I don't know what to do. Sometimes I talk to myself about weird shit until I realise the pointlessness of what I'm doing.

Driving really isn't all that it is cracked up to be. Sure, going places whenever you want is fun but the actual act of driving itself isn't all that amazing. I thought it would be the funnest thing ever as a child.

I hate responsibility and having people depend on me so really I hate being older...
I'd rather go back and be like six years old, play Pokemon, watch Yu-Gi-Oh!, eat cereal at 5:30 AM in my gitch and wake up my dad by jumping on his bed with my little brother, go outside and build snowmen in the winter, throw snowballs at oncoming vehicles without really getting in shit for it, play with action figures, play with army men, watch horror movies until like 2 AM on the weekends with my dad and then be too scared to sleep.

Ah man I really miss my childhood.... I could go on forever.

Yeah, whatever.

Funny, for me that's quite the contrary.
One of my biggest fears is becoming a dad.

Every milestone in your life is a disappointment in some way.

Primary school ends, high school begins.
High school ends, college/university begins.
College/university ends, work begins.
Work ends, retirement begins.
Retirement ends, you die.

I remember as a kid always thinking they day would never come that I could drive a car or go to the pub. Now that I can do those things, they're nothing special. Childhood dreams crushed, just like that. I don't really know what the next thing I'm looking forward to being able to do is.

"O JESUS, I'm 21 and I can buy a BEER"

I'm 23....

I seriously am unimpressed with my life at the moment. I spent 2 years getting a useless degree, and now I have to start all over with classes because nothing really transfers over. Was in the military for a bit, but broke my leg like a jackass, so that didn't work out well either.

I make shitty life decisions. :<

The only thing I was really eager to become a child for was being able to see PG-13 and R-rated movies, as I was always a huge movie fan throughout my entire life. The other thing was being able to live on my own and stuff like that. That is the thing that I am really looking for right now. I still had I had to deal with harder stuff in high school and college and that certainly came true, but I have been handling that fairly well.

I'd give anything for my childhood back, but at the same time it's stupid to dwell on something beyond your control.

We desired the things we did not have or could do.

Now we realise why we couldn't have those things and the things we can do now are common, so they're not really that much of a deal.

I remember when I was 7 I really wanted to try beer. Now I barely touch the stuff and when I do drink it's just for relaxing.

Its pretty disappointing. I remember how I always wanted to drive (once in a while I take the bus...) I remember how I always thought right after I hit that 18 mark and I was out of high school that I could spend all my time doing the one thing i love (kinda like your first lv80 in WoW...its all downhill from there.) Turns out its not that way and responsibility has taken a mean bite at my ass. Its not all that is cut out to be.

I hear ya man. I'd kill seven people to go back to my childhood. Climbing on roofs, playing with blackpowder and fire in general, being all curious about nearly everything...
