I am about to try this.

I have always used flash, so I thought I would try something new. I also suck at programming, so this will probably help.

I've hit a point with the the collab I'm working on where I can't go any farther because I waiting for one person; so I guess this would be a good way to use up that time.

dude, in TGF2, go to file - build - application...pretty sure that's how you do it.

I've run into a problem. Say I have 2 objects, one on top of the other, how do I condition an event so that it only registers the one on top?

Just use two directions in the animation and have one thing on one direction and the other on the other direction unless its some sort of a button or something that needs two separate objects. Then you could make it so when they swap one goes out of the screen and the other comes in.

I know it needs sound but I'm not sure what to use. Suggestions please.

The objects are static, the same object, can't be different directions, they're just different sizes, one on top of the other. When clicking on one that I want to say, destroy, I end up destroying both cos I'm effectively "clicking" on both. Oh and they can't be different layers either.

Your space program is pretty good... my recommendations:

Pause key! I had an itch on my nose for 5 minutes...say when you press "P"? Note if you set the same key to play it will end up pausing for a 100th of a second.
Shooting reduces score by say 25. What's to stop someone from hammering space and moving from side to side?

Minor recommendations:
It seems the location of the laser isn't random. You can make it random by typing: Random(<width>)+<starting x value> in the expression calculator for calculating the X location.
Slow things down, the lasers as well as your own movement, some find fast paced games tiring.

Personal ideas:
Powerups - 3 way rockets, 1 hit shield...
Powerdowns - faster lasers, smaller rockets...
Lasers that come down diagonally.

Thanks for the ideas I Didn't know about that random thing.
I'm definitely putting in a pause button.
I think I'l make shooting lower score by 10.

faster lasers.......
You contradicted yourself.
I'm not sure what you mean by three way rockets but I'm going to put a shield in.
I will do smaller rockets.
Lasers that come down diagonally does seem like a good idea but I think I might not do it.
Thanks now to make a list of things to do and get to work on it.

I didn't contradict myself. Generally everything should be slowed down, but a "powerdown" object that falls like the life thing, when shot could mean that lasers speed up for a short time.

Hey, I've been tooling with GF2 for a bit, but I can't figure this out.

I'm trying to make a point and click style adventure game, and I'm trying to 1) Figure out how to do a custom cursor, and 2) Figure out how to make it so that I click on an area, and a character will walk over to it. I'm not sure which option to use under the "active object" dropdown.

Anyone else make this kind of game and can offer advice?

for the mouse thing, there might be something specifically for it but, in events at start of frame "hide mouse pointer" and insert an active object that looks like the cursor you want and under an always condition to set it's x and y to mouse's x and y.

When it comes to the character, it will involve storing the mouse's x and y in two of it's alterable values when you click, beyond that I'm not 100% sure what's best. Create a new project/application and experiment. See how you can acquire your desired effect, until someone finds an answer for you.

Hey guys, just a quick question: What's the policy on the "tutorial game" in the flash portal? Example:

I am willing to bet people don't want to see the same game over and over, and I would classify this as stolen for sure but I am not confident that it's whistle worthy. I'm sure this has been discussed before so what's the general opinion?

Hi there, wanna start off by saying I'm highly enjoying the free ng exclusive version. I just finished going through the tutorial (which was very well explained) and the only trouble I am having is actually exporting the .SWF file. When I try to Build the application, it builds it but when I go to the .swf file and open it, it only shows a Newgrounds loader and when I click play it just turns white. However, when I click Build and Run it does Run the game perfectly but the .swf still does the thing with the white screen. Any ideas?

You need to upload the SWF to Newgrounds to play it.
The SWF won't run on your computer or if you upload it to other websites.

PM them to Tom and he'll delete it. He usually looks for them during the broadcasts and then deletes them I think.

Depends on what kind of audio you're looking for. MP3s aren't a supported format on Clickteam products, so you'll have to find some program that can convert your sound files into WAVs or MIDIs first before you can import them into your project.

Random question:
What, in your opinion, is the best thing made with TGF2 and submitted to Newgrounds so far?

I ask because all I've ever seen anyone do with it to date is steal the chocobreak tutorial. Please tell me I've missed something good here. Or at least something that makes all the choco-bullshit worthwhile.

I've also been supremely disappointed with the unused potential of the program. When I finish up with that little gadget I posted earlier, I'm probably going to go ahead and submit that, so at least there'll be some OC up there.
