Thanks, EJR! And I'm psyched about the new API extension, too. Probably gonna look into getting MMF2 and the flash runtime this winter.

Yeah I'm having a tough time deciding between TGF2 or MMF2. I know that MMF2 is "better," but what are the big advantages to having it over TGF2? I'm not a rich man at all, so I'm trying to go for whatever can suit my needs for a fairly low price, and I've been pretty satisfied with TGF2NG so far so idk.

3rd party extensions are a huge draw for MMF2. There are a lot of extensions that make otherwise painstaking tasks much easier.

Regardless, you can upgrade to HWA either way, which really helps with performance.

MMF2's extensions really are a boost if you're doing anything complex, but if you're happy with what you've seen of TGF2 so far, remember that you can apply for an upgrade discount to MMF2 later if you choose you want to start there and move up.

I used to be a big MMF man back in the day, but eventually gave up. I think I'll take another shot at it now that I know my games can receive publicity on Newgrounds. As a game artist, I've always wanted to bypass the hardest step: getting a good programmer.

Just looking for some confirmation... I forget if this has been specifically mentioned before but:

Does the Flash Exporter for MMF2 have the same limitations as does the built in Flash Exporter for the NG version of TGF2? I remember early on in this forum someone was talking about how ink effects didn't work or something.

Either way is there a list somewhere with the known limitations? I'm going to be starting my big project soonish and I'd hate to build in any events that won't translate to .swf.

Cheers! :)

I can't remember whether it's in the Newgrounds version or not, but there's a section in the Help of the Flash exporter (F1) that gives an overview of the differences that you can expect from an EXE version of an exported game. Most of them are things you would expect from a Flash game, like not being able to interact too much with the player's hard drive, or use extensions that get system information, and so on.

I have a problem. I'm trying to get it to shoot two different objects. when facing left, press z to fire left. when facing right, press z to fire right. the problem is that I can't figure out how to make the left invisible when firing right and vice versa. help?

Makin' some figure 8's with some good old math.

Arrow keys to move the guy
"+/=" to Increase speed
"-" to decrease speed

Z to increase radius
X to decrease radius

I've figured out the last problem, I just had to make the object check the visibility of the one it was firing from.

but I still have to figure out how to fix the problem of moving forward from the same spot when pressing the same key more than once in a row

Messing around with rotations and stuff.

May not seem like much now, but with a good platform engine implemented, it'll be cool, I assure you.

I've got an issue trying to make the player's character jump.
It can jump while while moving, but not while it remains in the same place, without going to left or right.
This is what I'm talking about.

Set the jump button to 'Fire 1' and then set Fire 1 to the Up arrow

I've got this so far:
Arrow Keys to move
A to jump
The "character" respawns if it falls out of the screen, so test it as much as you want :p
Also, the platforms and stuff were made by me. I know how to use Gimp but I wanted to make it pixelish.

Here it is!

I'm having some trouble:

Shooting projectiles:
- Animation issue while shooting projectiles when the character is looking to the left.
- Projectiles shoot at random directions instead of according to the character's.

Platforms:
- If the character hits a platform from below it will stop in the middle of the air and fall.

A to jump
S to shoot
Arrow Keys to move.

Are you sure you have the platforms set as "platform"? Click on "Runtime" for the backdrop you have as your platform, and make sure you have "Platform" as the obstacle type instead of "Obstacle"

But when I set them as platform they just fall off the screen.

Here it is.
Also:

UPDATE:
New Player + animations
Shooting ability
An enemy (Yes, just one)
3 lives
Death screen (wait 5 seconds to go back)
Higher jump strenght

Known Issues:
Shooting does not respect the players direction.
The enemy seems to be too fast.
When the player hits a platform from below he/she will stop in the middle of the air and fall.
Some random moves when the player hits a side of the platforms.
Death screen appears only once.
