I usually don't post in the forums, but there usually isn't a day when I come across something as interesting and well-written as Newgrounds magazine. Very, very nice! I haven't been this excited to read something since I discovered Terry Pratchett novels and the old Diehard Gamefan magazines! Newgrounds magazine is very hardcore-- more information than you could ever need! This is one of the easiest ways to catch up on the artists you usually had to find by looking at other people's profile's or by wading through crap. READ this thing and get previews with quality information, author bios, and screenshots! If the portal is Newgrounds, then Newgrounds Magazine is the continuously-updated encyclopedia.

I think the tools on it are neat and what not but I don't really get the concept of it. Wasn't the BBS sort of like a self publishing magazine that all the users fed into?

I just think its like another site seperate from NG. It makes the site seem a little to "industrial" to me.

Another BUG.

Error - it looks as though you've already expressed your anticipation of this Alpha for today. You'll have to wait until tomorrow before you're able to express your anticipation of it again.

Unless I am utterly retarded this isn't right. I am sure that I have waited a day before voting.

Safari has a few CSS glitches (but hey, who doesn't?) At least, I'm assuming this is a CSS-related bug.

Rather cool idea, altho a mailing list may be slightly better so that we dont have to check both sites, or why not just combine them, or change the homepage to encorporate all of these features? worth thinking about as i can hardly see myself clicking between both sites to be honest.

Sweet thing!

Just one thing...what if someone submits crap Alpha? If the Flash previews are being made for is going to be blammed, what will become of the Alpha? If it falls below a given anticipation level, does it get blammed? If it rises enough, does it get protected? Also, could there be extra exp. points for voting on Alphas?

Feel no mercy for me. It will only cause you to suffer as well.

Ideas? I'm full of those! (amongst other things.)

- Incentive to 'vote' on submissions. NGers obviously love pointless stats, give them something :D

- Allow submitters to make updates. This could be handy for big projects that change and develop over a period of time. (additional 'Most Recently Updated Alphas' column optional)

- Email notification of 'anticipated' alphas when the full version is submitted to the portal, or are updated. Not everyone can watch every portal submission, It would be a shame to miss something you're anticipating. This email could be sent once a week, perhaps in the form of a newsletter that contains other updates from the mag :D

- Demo windows don't always resize to their proper specifications (IE6.) Very much annoying as I have to ctrl-n every submission. I occasionally have the same problem with screenshots.

- And as I pointed out in the email I sent you, the link colour is difficult to read and hard on the old peepers. ):

I think thats a cool idea, if you add your name and password to a form at the bottom of the page you could be notified the moment it's updated and finished.
And how about submitting movies from the alpha section? Say you have an alpha and complete your project two weeks later, you log into your account and add the new portal info to the alpha info and when you load your movie the alpha is put into the collection page and is linked on the movie information when people go to view it.
Or simply when you go to upload your movie you link the alpha in the upload information and its put in the collection of completed alphas.

Hope you understood that.

QuarterMelonClock:

There actually is an updating facility, I just haven't uploaded it yet. It's an iframe that gets included on the right hand side of the page, much like the suggestions currently sit there.

E-mail notification is actually something we've been talking about for a long time and not just for the alphas. Whenever I start work on one of the methods we've talked about, I'll be working on all the methods, so you can probably expect to see some sort of e-mail subscription in the future.

I'm working on the demo window problems. It works fine for me on IE6, but you could be using some sort of skin on your browser that's different to the one I'm using. I know Tom said that he had problems with the demo window, but I had managed to iron those out. The frustrating thing is that that could all be cleared up if only IE6 had kept an old set of javascript functions that worked in IE4 and 5 (and yet they work in every other mainline browser. Bleh).

zoro:

I've thought of a simpler way to link up the alphas with new Portal entries. :)
