Tattoo Idea

this is an Idea for a tatto I plan to get. now as you may know, Tattoo parlors charge more for color and gradients of shading. but this works out for me because I'm largely colorblind.

I'm religious so in this design I wanted to portray that, while still having a badass feel. I wanted to give it a sort of Templar crusader look like in Assassins creed 1.

the thing about tattoos is that they have to be perfectly done and perfectly designed because they become a permanent part of your body. so anything you could see to be improved please let me know cuz i really wana get this right.

oh by the way, the banner reads "Accipite Armaturam Dei" the opening phrase of Ephesians 3:13. I't latin, and translates to "Put on the full armor of God"

It's very good, I don't think the banner + text fits too well and that it would probably look better without it.

hmm I don't know... I kinda thought that, y'know, sword, shield, armor... it all kinda flowed. here's a comparison. I think it offsets the vertical balance... but now that you mention it, it does have an interesting effect on the composition.

If you want to keep the banner, I suggest removing the shading on it.

Actually banners looks good with that kind of motive. Just depending on where it will be placed on the body and how big it will be, you probably won't be able to read the text.

As johnny said, try it without the shading and/or make the banner a little broader.

Generally, I think it looks really cool and the text is a great choice.

Thanks, yeah I forgot to mention, It's going on my upper back in between the shoulder blades. about 7.5" wide by 6.5" high

yeah but.. like, youd have to be able to see the notes coming out of his guitar, so you know he's actually playing it. And then he could be wearing sun glasses, but, like he'd be looking over them and winking.

thats a pretty cool design though... if its going to be as big as you say, then the banner is a fine size, but i would find a better text or maybe have the tattooist fix the text so it looks like its a part of the banner and not a cut out from a word document.

get rid of the shading too.. upsets the black text with a weird white outline.

Lol loving the adjustments based on the feedback.

Ive already designed and been paid for designing a tattoo, its a bit of a learning curve but Ill try to take what ive learnt and give some suggestions on how to improve the original design... first of all i gotta say to get rid of the thickness on the shadow to the left of the shield, against the cross it makes things seem a little off balance.

That aside its a pretty well polished idea, there's a few things i would change to suit my tastes if i was getting it done. For one i would try shading it it pencil and not use thick black to describe a light source, when you use flat shapes to describe shadow you run the risk of the artwork looking like vector art... theres nothing wrong with it, i just would want mine to look a little more well rendered than a vector graphic slapped on my arm. Also i would try to make the wings a little more organic, you can have more natural looking wings with it still looking badass, it will just sit better on the canvas, that being your skin.
