BOO FOR RATINGS!
WHOS WITH ME!
The problem isn't the ratings, it's your parents. Personally, I only play games rated EC (early childhood) that way I know I'm learning good values.
: /
i guess your rite.. but its sooo annoying! yo gotta feel mah pain....
Sigh, he reminds me so much of me when I was a newbie.
Welcome to newgrounds.
The ratings are put their so parents can't really have any say so if they buy their kid the game. Even though some do afterwards.
You're parents are actually smart and more parents should actually be that way.
However when it comes to a game with said rating look at what the game consists of. Chances are what the game is rated for may not contain content that is perfectly normal for your age.
Like "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" has a T for Teen rating as does "Super Smash Bros. Melee" and "Super Smash Bros. Brawl."
Look for what the game consists of and see if your parents will change their minds.

The reason for ratings is to protect younger gamers. If parents don't want you to play a 16+ and your below it's fully understandable. Since it shows that your parents are paying attention to what your playing and they don't want you to turn into the psychopath that the media has labelled us as.
If a game is rated 18+ then there is a reason for it, it indicates that the game shouldn't be played by minors since it contains themes not suitable for younger people. More parents should be like yours, maybe then I will actually enjoy playing games online through a lack of people to piss me off.

Fixed. Let's be honest.
Oh yay! Parents actually blocking their kids off of games they shouldn't be on! I wish more parents would do what yours are doing, keeping kids OFF OF GAMES THEY SHOULDN'T EVEN BE ON!
I'm not affected because I'M 21 OH YEAHHHHHH!!!

Judging from your post, you come off as quite immature. I can see why your parents will not allow you to play M-rated games.

I had to decipher your post to figure out what this thread was about, because the thread title sounded like an ass-backwards charity. After reading your post, unlike mostly agreeing with you like I might have done if you were anyone else, I'm now inclined to demand a harsher ratings system.

Your parents shud be clever and do it on a game by game basis and your parents should judge the game after researching it. Also you sound like an autistic, I may be wrong maybe all 13 yr olds are like you but this is the internet so its full of autistics, that could be something to do with it because your parents may wrongly or rightly think if you play higher rated games you will confuse fantasy with reality. Also at my school all the kids who couldn't play 18 when they were like 12 were bullied and thought of as nerds by the cool kids and/or nerds with more liberal parents.

If you're like that, than I can see why your parents won't let you play M rated games.

Your parents are smarter than most kids' parents who let them play Call of Duty and Halo. See, it's because of the STUPID parents that this whole court ordeal about censoring games is going.
"Gee, I wonder if Call of Duty is safe for kids? I mean, I know it has a violent-looking man on the cover with a gun, and a big M rating on the front by an official rating board, but I think I'll get it for my 8-year-old kid."
If you look on Newgrounds, they hate when little kids go online with these mature games. It just isn't right for kids to play violent games, and there are OBVIOUS signs of warning on the freakin' case anyway! Parents should be more like YOUR parents, people who aren't idiots and know what's up. They know you are probably not mature enough mentally to handle such games (no offense, just pointin' out things as examples). I know it seems unfair, but that's the parents' job. Too bad, so sad.
TL;DR : Your parents are smart, and it may seem unfair, but it's not. Trust them, and roll with it.
BTW, you ain't missing much. A bunch of 20-year-olds arguing who's got the bigger e-peen. Meh.
You should be thanking your parents for making online gaming slightly more bearable.

You know what pisses me off about ratings?
When you're play CoD online with a bunch of ten years old kids.
This WOULDN'T bother me so much, but I got banned from Live for a couple of days because I dropped the f-bomb and some kid reported me.
He was playing a 17+ game, where they cuss plenty. Hell, they're KILLING eachother.
If you don't want to hear swearing, I suggest playing Naruto or some shit.

I stopped reading at that.
Luckily for me, I have 2 older brothers who helped me not be one of the immature screaming 1 - 14 year-old kids who think they are soooooo coooooooool. I'm one of the lucky ones. I actually can have an opinion in the gaming world that doesn't reflect the media's interpretation. However, being raised like this has its cons... I can't stand being an evil character in video games. Except for Fable 2, that games characters, and NPC are just stupid and spineless. But with Mass Effect, I just hate being mean to people.
I'm so proud of myself.
The rating were designed to make sure that a 11 year old doesn't try to play something like Madworld or God Of War, although most people simply bypass the ratings by telling mom, dad or older sibling to buy the game.
In all honesty though, there are times where they have misrated some games, 2 of the biggest ones would be SSBB and Halo.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl should have been E10+ instead of T, because I don't really see any T rated material in a game like this.
Likewise for Halo, I believe the series should have been rated T because their isn't that much blood, ultra-violence, or even cursing in the series. I think they have gone a little overboard with those ratings as far as I'm concerened.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.
no cus the 16+ and 18+ games always ROCK!!!! though i am getting my first 16+ soon... cus it was rated T which i have alot...
Talking about ratings... I was in the VG store the other day where they sold Heavy Rain with 2 different covers. 1 cover said 18+ and the other said 15+
WTF?
I am pretty sure Heavy Rain is ment to be 18+ so whats the deal with the cover saying 15+ ?

Some companies get their ratings changed in other versions of the game due to the rating being reconsidered by who ever rated it.
Sometime, You wonder why cookies are not free from the stores but free when you got them.
