I remember one of our primary school head teachers had the bone at the end of her finger exposed. It apparently happened as a kid. She told us that she had a lawn mower flipped upside down and was using the blades to mash up sticks, but it ended up taking part of her finger.

I always found it disturbing.

In trapped my finger in a big metal gate about 7 years ago and the wierd thing on the end is my nail and it's all fubar because it's been severed below where the normal nail would be, so i can't cut it off seeing as it's too close to the skin etc. The only option is to basically take more of my finger off.
