You screwed yourself.
Get a sense of responsibility.
Are you actually that ignorant to cultures? Every country in that area has a different culture and music. Until you actually know what your talking about, you really shouldn't even come near this contest. You're insulting a large area because you think you can just generalize an area. Just like if you has said you where picking Asia and was going to write Asian music. Without realizing that Russia, all of the Arabic countries and India are in Asia.
Do your research on the cultures and music, then give us your actual country.
i said middle east, not asia. I don't know why you're tell me this. Besides, i'm sure in the middle east its all the same...with a minor difference. just like the fact that there is Africa as a selection. Its all the same in that general region right? same point i made.
Uhh... guys... you might want to take a look at the radar...

Well, if you compare both modern music and the musical heritage of the culture of these countries, the differences and variations start piling up. Y'all need to stop thinking about how they all played the same instruments 900 years ago and think about modern popular artists aswell because believe it or not, Iraq for instance, has a metalband that risks getting stoned to death (not the good stoned either, i might add) to play the music they want to play.
Srsly, lets all not derail this otherwise neat thread into a shitspitting contest, eh?
I'll start by saying something nice about you guise: When I eradicate humanity, I'll leave you folks for last, mmk? :3
Listen to and download Ultima Eternus in MP3 right here on NG or buy the lossless version! Srsly, buy it. >:c

Latest Song: Retraktion [House/Electro] / Latest Mix: Voltaicly Uncondensed
It makes me sad that someone would generalize middle eastern countries. It also makes me sad that someone would consider them Arabic countries just because they write in Arabic but speak different languages and are of different ethnicities (i.e. Emirates, Pashtus, Arabs, Persians etc.). But, most of all, it makes me sad that someone would refer to Israel as an Arab country. I'm sure the Palestinians and Israelis would be confused. :P
Anyway, enough of my bitching, I was actually considering switching my country to Thailand because new saz strings aren't in my possession yet, it will take me a long time to make a good song and I definitely want to use my cogur saz (sorry, I keep forgetting mine is the short necked cogur and not the long necked baglama that I wanted in the first place. Fuck false advertising). Plus I started work on a song using sanshin that's, like, a rock song. Although sanshin is Okinawan and Thai music is extremely in contrast to that of Japan's (Okinawa and the Ainu peoples' music included), it is Asian and I'd feel comfortable doing that. Even though you don't have to tailor you're music to the country.
The problem with that being, I'm not sure how long it's going to take me to make the damned song. I also love Turkey and presenting evidence of research would be beyond easy, I'm just not sure I'd feel comfortable representing Turkey with Japanese inspired folk rock. Thoughts, anyone?

You've been added to the list!
I saw the rule saying "Strictly no vocal samples." And now I must ask...
Does that mean strictly no acapellas? Or strictly NO samples involving the human voice?

Any vocals in your work must be entirely created by yourself.
Just a reminder that we are now reaching the final month of composition period guys! Make sure, if you're not already, that you're making a good start on your pieces!

Lol
Actually, I found a few things shoved in the libraries I already have. I'm having trouble finding a Gadulka/anything that sounds like one, though.

Acceptable sounding ethnic VSTs are hard to come across, I find.

Does this seem authentic to you?
Click to listen.
The drums are pretty much perfect by my standards, not sure about the kaval (even though it's close).

The kaval, to me, sort of has a "crying" or "wailing" sound to it, not unlike other certain eastern ethnic flutes. I'm constantly experimenting in order to get the sounds I want, so I'm not sure how to give an explanation of how you'd achieve this effect.
The kaval in your song has this electronic feel to it, maybe try making the spots where it switches notes seem less linear with reverb or something (although, you've probably already thought of this). Other than that I'd say what you've got there, so far is pretty darn good!

Thanks!
I tried playing around with the reverb and eventually came to a much better sound that isn't as breathy and is smoother between notes.
I'm actually moving to a new house, as soon as I finish I will be working and then uploading my track

Ooooh! I can't wait. :3
We've already had 2 submissions handed in. It's a month now until the RAC 5 Submission deadline. Contestant spotlight week is new this year and I'm so excited for it to start. I'd also like to know if there are any participants with skype who'd be willing to take part in a few RAC contest podcasts. At the minute it's just an idea, but I'd like to know if there are any people willing to take part.
During Contestant spotlight week, one block each day will be revealed. In each block will be one auto-qualifier and four successful semi-finalists. Essentially for that week 4 acts each day will be awarded a place in the final. It'll be all hyped up and exciting! :D
