Do you mix in your composing DAW?

I use Sony Acid Pro 7 to write/record/compose my music. However, it's mixing and mastering effects are SUPER limited.

I want to know if you use a separate program for mixing/mastering, and if so what is it?

Because I'm sick of not getting the kind of sound I want because of my program's limitations.

i dont, i use FL Studio 9 as my DAW... it comes with sufficient tools for mastering and mixing.... but if ever need alittle more i use external vsts, which with fl studio i can load into the program.

As far as I'm concerned FL Studio covers in-program mixing fairly comprehensively, so I don't bother with a dedicated mixing application.

I compose and mix everything in FL Studio, but yeah, dedicated mastering software exists.

Damn. I might have to switch to FL. I've heard it's really different from everything else though, it'll probably take me months to get back to where I am now if I did start over.

Are there any dedicated mixing programs that you actually have heard about or know of?

ACID can load these external mastering & mixing plug-ins since they are mostly just VST. The industry standard ones are the Waves plug-ins and the Izotope mastering suite.

Acid is pretty nice i thought. It was my starting program, then I bough Ableton Live. And then I bought cubase!!!!

I do all my production and mastering in cubase, but If i want to mess around with stuff and do a live 'as it is' mix, i use ableton.

My school has Finale Songwriter on all it's computers, so I use that sometimes to compose classical stuff. Usually I just use FL though.

I compose my music on my guitar and record it, mix it, and master it in Reaper. Though I do write my drums in TuxGuitar for midi programming. I find that Reaper and all the free and paid plugs I've got does the job.

I do everything in FL Studio. EVERYTHING. Even Flash animations and cake-baking.
