How Do You Get Clips Into A Flash?

Ok, I've seen this a couple times before, someone had a flash with a clip of a movie in it. I just got flash and understand the basics, but all I'm trying to do is get a short clip on the first layer and then the animation being separate on other layers, but whenever I try to get a movie into the flash, it doesnt work. Ive tried converting the original file to .swf and .flv but neither is working. Would I have to convert it to .fla?

If there's something I'm missing please let me know. I need this for a damned english project :o!

I'm using Flash CS4 btw.

Have you tried File > Import > Video?

Yeah, I get it into the library, but when I put it into the flash and even just leave it there and then export it to watch it, its just a black screen. I tried putting it as a graphic and as a movie clip but it still just comes up black.

Easy, just print off the picture of what you want in the flash then insert the picture into your cd drive. Flash will then turn the paper into pixels it can use.

If that doesn't work then press F1 in flash
