Tablet: Wacom Cintiq 12wx Question! 2010-10-21 20:04:33 Reply

Hi, I'm not sure where the best place to post this is...
I'm thinking of buying this tablet, or I was, but I heard that there are some major problems with it.
I heard something about poor calibration, and a crappy screen. I'm not quite sure about it. Ive seen some customer reviews of people saying it is excellent, and some saying they hated it.
I just want a tablet that is good for drawing in flash, that will last for at least a few years, and that is not extremely difficult to use.
Portability isn't a concern, I'm planning on keeping it in one place.
I really want it to have a screen, I don't like the tablets that don't. My budget is around 1,000$, and right now I see one of these Cintiqs up on Ebay for a good price (~800).

TL;DR:
Should I get it? Is there anything that would be better? Does anyone here have this tablet?
Is there a tablet that is similar to this one, but with 4 point calibration?

I actually just got one, but am having issues using it (needed a new video card for dual monitor support)
Only had a chance to use it once, and it was disappointing.
The screen itself is fine, looks good.
My problem is calibration. The cursor never stays aligned to the point of my grip pen..
Its only accurate in the very center of the screen, and no matter how many times i calibrate it, its still way off..

I still wanna give it some more time and try it out more, but the alignment problem is a huge bummer.
Beginning to have buyers regret. other than that its great.. but the one problem it has is the most important feature!

Thanks.

Does the 21ux also have the calibration problem?

why not get an intuos 4, that's what the professionals use, and you might think it would be awkward to use but it's not

If you're a serious animator and it's basically what you do for more than a hobby get a 21wx one.

I was reading around, in the wacom forums someone was having the same problem, and said they fixed it by rolling back the wacom drivers, so hopefully that is the problem and not just a bad product. I can't find out until I get my computer working to use it (my video card can't support the dual monitor crap), so I can't write the cintiq off quite yet.

when I get my computer parts in to be able to use the cintiq again to test it, i'll let ya know d00d

hopefully just bad drivers.

The colours are fine but not the best.
If it's possible/necessary run dual monitors so you can nail the colours.
But you don't really buy a Cintiq for the colours.
I personally haven't had any calibration issues other then having the wrong resolution once. The only other calibration issue will be caused by your perspective; when the cursor is closer to the corners or the edges of the tablet it will offset away from the pen a small amount. It hasn't caused me any issues yet.
Those are my only problems with it, other then that it is incredible.
GO FOR IT SON.
