So if Jews rebuild the Temple 2010-10-19 01:23:07 Reply

Note- im not talking about the Jewish Messiah coming or the possible apocalypse or the fate of the Dome of the Rock nor possible conflicts with Islam or Christianity or whatever. Just for the Jews, if a new temple is built in Jerusalem.

What exactly would happen, politically? Would there be a new Kohen Gadol? How would he be selected, and who would it be you think? How would it effect the different sects of Judaism (not to mention the atheist "Jews") if there suddenly was a priesthood and a high priest again? (essential a Jewish pope kinda)

Any Jews here care to enlighten my on your thoughts?

Also, an ancient style Temple built with modern technology would be some pretty epic architecture.

Here's my prediction:

"Christians" would cry foul similar to the Mosque being built in ground zero. They would say that it is insensitive to their savior "Jesus" and their "god" who destroyed it with an earthquake.

Now, the reason why I used "" is because I know and I believe that they are not REAL Christians but ignorant hypocrites. So for those who are REAL Christians, you'll find nothing offensive in my statement.

Doubtful.

My guess is very little will happen. Israel is not a theocracy, and will very likely not become one. At most, it will be a nice tourist attraction and many Jews will feel happy for themselves.

As I'm lead to believe, many sects of Christianity would actually rely on a new temple being built, so that all the Christians, dead or alive, will be resurrected and led through the gates in Jerusalem into Heaven.

Or maybe that was the Jews..

There are many branches of Judaism, and most of those branches don't have a unified leadership, but operate with committees & conferences. Additionally, some of those branches don't recognize the authority of others, and others don't recognize the other branches as even being Jewish, much like how the Christians were chucked out of the "Jewish" faith.

If a temple were built, and location would matter to some people, you wouldn't be able to unite all of the people under it and there's no real method for bringing it about either. I'm sure whoever did it would have the same problem as Catholics, and the "protestants" of Judaism would just ignore it.

Jews would have to find cheap labor to build temple. Jews no do Manual labor. Jews hire Mexicans laborers to build temple. Mexicans have mass exodus to Jew lands.

Egypt sure has some pretty fancy pyramids, thar. (Troll Treats! Part of your complete BBS-Breakfast).

Israel has some pretty funky dynamics. The Knesset, the Israeli "congress" is pretty dang split, and you end up with two Jewish political factions: Orthodox and Secular. They don't like each-other, and each have caused a great deal of strife for the other. Secular to Orthodox is the obvious one; they aren't being proper Jews.

The Orthodox to Secular cause of strife is slightly more complicated. I've read this somewhere, I cannot give a source for it, but during some war in Israel gas masks were handed out. These gas masks were put on the face to prevent toxic stuff from entering your lungs. Beards are a supreme no-no; they'll invalidate the gas mask. However, there's a special kind of motorized gas mask that pushes air to the lungs rather than a passive gas mask. This was made for disabled people, or people who had breathing trouble. The Orthodox Jews didn't want to shave their beards, and so they wanted more of these expensive gas masks from the government. That means the government pays more, and that comes from taxpayer money. Hilarity ensues.

If the temple was rebuilt, all hell would break loose. Since Orthodox politicians would take the word of this temple as law, this temple would have significant political power. Secular factions would freak out about a theocratic uprising, and the surrounding Muslim nations would probably freak out even more about a Jewish nation becoming even more Jewish than before.

And yes, Israel is a Jewish nation. It is not secular. It necessarily must favor Jews, that's what it was made for; it's a homeland for Jews when everywhere else is closed.

I can't really say what the plus side is because I'm not exactly sure what the temple was used for, although I know that it was an extremely religious symbol. Jews are totally into symbols, especially Orthodox Jews. (Reference: I'm in Chabad, the Orthodox Jewish club on my campus. Yes, I am Jewish.)

Somewhere in the book of revelations, it says that something catastrophic will occur if a new temple is built in Jerusalem. Looking at what a powder keg the middle east already is and how many fingers are dug into it internationally, I want to say some kind of Armageddon is almost dead certain. When you have 5 million people surrounded by 100 million others who wish them ill, something spectacular is prepared to happen.

Certain parts of this remind me of the Aeneid, a great conflict, prophecies, but without the great heroes.

I highly doubt that will happen, because there are division in Israel between the Orthodox and the Secular groups of people who live there. If they ever do this, then Israel would be a theocracy like Iran, and I don't think that would sit well with anyone there, considering their general hatred toward Ahmadinejad and Aylatollah Khomeini.

Not to mention Judaism is a religion that is split up into many different sects, like Christianity. A lot of sects would think that the Temple and having a holy figure, much like a Jewish pope would corrupt the teachings of the Torah, and piss off God.

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

YES, BECAUSE NOT BEING CHRISTIAN MEANS YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO LAND. OR THE ABILITY TO BUILD THINGS ON THE LAND THAT YOU OWN.

Honestly, you act like God is giddy with anticipation to strike down some Jews.

Anyway, onto the main point. Israel isn't going to rebuild the temple for a long, long time. For one, it's pointless. Israel is a secular state, they have no need to waste time, money, and resources to build a massive temple. Besides, doing so would require demolishing the Dome on the Rock, which would severely undermine the already incredibly strained relations between the other states in the Middle East. I wouldn't be surprised if they ever built one. It's pointless to do, and a drain of funding.

Actually I wouldn't be so doubtful, people are very easily butthurt over unimportant things.
