I don't have an android, so my question is completely 100% bias as I do have an iphone and I adore it greatly.

Wait, nevermind. You're in the right place.
To those who read my last thread, this is one of the things I was talking about.
wwwwwwwwwww
I've had both, i prefer android. but neither is perfect.

Pretty much this. I love my trusty 'ole 3GS.
Most of the people I know with smart phones tend to use Andriod and from what I've seen of it, it looks pretty good. I've never used an iPhone before but they don't seem all that bad either. The interface is possibly nicer to look at, but I suppose thats all just personal preference.
For my choice, I'd go i with Andriod. It just seems to have a better rating amongst the people I know.

My personal preference is Android (currently own an EVO 4G, had an HTC Hero before that). I've also owned an iPhone. They're both really great smartphone devices but they're definitely for different crowds. iPhone is more for those who just want something that works and works well out of the box. Downside is that it's not very open, customization options and abilities are very limited.
Android is pretty much the polar opposite. Very open, mostly for power users who like to tweak and customize and make their device their own. If you don't mind learning and tweaking your phone to push it to its limits then you'll love Android. Again, it's more of a device for tech lovers and power users, but it's definitely gaining mass appeal lately with more simplified interfaces being used on Android devices.
the android because you can run third party apps without geting sued (from Apple) and it supports Flash and I can make fucking calls with my droid unlike the iphone.
In my computing class, we were discussing future development courses. The Android SDK is more flexible than the iPhone SDK, but coding for it is far more complicated, the apps are far more likely to have bugs, and as a user it's far more dangerous to the security of your data and the handset. Plus the Android OS apparently uses a proprietary code for coding while learning to code for the iPhone gives you a base in Objective C.

Android, of course
Still better than Symbian.
And an Android with the newer Snapdragon processor is something I'd prefer over an iPhone.

Sorry to hear that.
Google doesn't give 2 shits about Android market, it's filled with illegal stuff (like free mp3 downloads, emulators and video game ROM's) and there's also a shitload of spammers.
Even the best games on Android market (Raging Thunder 2) are not very fun for long.
Also, the market only accepts credit cards in the Netherlands, while 90% of people here don't have one!

No, I prefer the Android's interface (or at least, HTC sense) and it also supports themes and even home replacements.
Yeah, I love how customizable it is, but I hate the crap that's in Android market...
virus scanners for a phone... typically sounds like what a Windows user would buy...
iPhone, everything else is an imitation trying to catch up.

Your a fucking moron you know that?
I have niether, since all I really need my phone for is you guess it, to call people with! Im not really bothered with the apps crap.

Your choice there. Like it is ours to have app capable phones that give us fantastic entertainment and useful tools.
Sure his comment about being better than a DS is a bit much. Probably better than a PSP though. Some of the games you can get on the iphone are just superb and at a faction of the cost to get console/handheld games.
I'm saving up for an Android. My reasons why is that I like their keyboard on it, because I cant text faster with it, there are more free apps on it and it supports flash. Also, this is just like the Windows vs Mac argument so... you are going to get flame wars.

I'm pretty certain that iPhones are the ones trying to catch up with Android.
A while ago, it may have been the other way around, but Android took the lead long ago with flash, google maps, open market apps, etc.
Don't forget that the iPhone was not always like it is today, and that when the Android was released to the market, it was an instant competitor with the current iPhone.
Honestly I don't have any experience with Android phones, and obviously there are a lot of great Android smart phones out there. Here are a few things my iPhone does that I enjoy, and I don't know if the Android phones can do this or not, but they probably can in some way.
Push notifications. These are instant messages sent to the iPhone from the app developer's servers, etc. Rather than a SMS message it uses your data plan to send a very small file.
Some examples of Push notifications I use that I find useful:
Instant alerts to Twitter activity, Facebook activity, email, weather alerts, google news alerts, sport scores and notification when games are starting, ending, etc. I even have an app that alerts me when there is a sizable earth quake anywhere in the world, just for fun. I also get breaking news alerts.
Then there is the 5MP autofocus camera w/ LED flash which does a nice job for a camera phone. 720p 30FPS HD video recording, with the ability to upload it to Youtube from the iPhone (over wifi) and iMovie so I can edit movies right in the iPhone before uploading them.
There's a slew of Twitter apps, facebook, etc. I can control my DVR from my Verizon FIOS app which I have found to be really handy. I can remotely control iTunes. I can stream any MP3, movie, webcam, and view pics from my home computer with one of the apps.
I have a few weather apps which include real time doppler radar, etc.
I can play games online with other players.
I have Trillian so my AIM, MSN, etc, is synced between my iPhone and desktop.
There are IRC apps, Skype, Ustream, Stickam, turn by turn GPS, Google Earth, Google maps, Sirius/XM streaming radio, and of course Mr. Bill the game! :P

Yeah, when Android was released it came after the first iPhone. Then Apple came out with a new phone and leaped ahead and Android devices then had to catch up with that, then iPhone released another new iPHone, and so on. It will be a game of leap frog obviously. Whoever puts out the latest phone will probably have an advantage somewhere. However, many argue the camera and video quality on the iPhone 4 is superior to the other smart phones. The iPhone 4's screen is also superior when it comes to pixel density. It's like looking at a photograph.
Also Google maps have been on the iPhone since I got my 3G over 2 years ago.

Well, you must realize that Android itself is an OS, and not the entire phone.... where the iPhone is the bundle of the phone and the OS.
It all depends on the phone manufacturer with Android.
Also Google maps have been on the iPhone since I got my 3G over 2 years ago.
Right... but Google maps was not always a feature on the iPhone, and was on the Android.
It took a little while for Apple to acquire licenses to use it.
but... I agree with the leapfrog thing. iPhones were indeed first, there is no doubt about that.
After Android, a new iPhone, and after the new iPhone, new software for Android, etc.
again tho, at the moment, iPhones seems to be the phone doing the "leaping" while Android is content with itself.

Well, I don't really know what the Andriod phones do. At least the Droids. Their commercials are all a bunch of fancy graphics, robots, lights, etc. They seem to be trying as hard as they can to make it look cool rather than telling people what it can actually do. So if I get a Droid, my hands turn into robotic hands and type at lightning speed? So I have to become a super robot before I can use the phone? :P
Android as an OS is doing very well, but there are a ton of phones running it. I'm not sure which Android phone would best compete with the iPhone. Probably the EVO, but it's freaking huge, but that could be a plus for some people. The HDMI out cable with the EVO is also another plus. The iPhone should have A/V and HDMI out, it's a no brainer, but that's the thing with Apple I hate. You know they could give it to you, but they don't, and hold off on it so you will pay more money to slowly get new features. :)
I'm no fan of Apple, but I do enjoy my iPhone. Even though they could make it do a lot more, I enjoy what it can do at the moment.
I haven't seen anything with the Android phones that made me feel like I would want one over my iPhone. Yeah, HDMI is nice, Flash could be handy, but it's not a high priority need for me.

Features are always good, but how much of it do we really need?
like...
When picture phones first came out, I laughed.
"Why would you need to have a really crappy camera in your phone?"
Well, now..... if your phone doesn't have a camera... its not a good phone! lol
I'm no fan of Apple, but I do enjoy my iPhone. Even though they could make it do a lot more, I enjoy what it can do at the moment.
lol who doesn't? Phones now, are more like PDA's. Portable mini computers, that make phone calls, take pictures, etc. Even if technology doesn't improve in the near future... we could enjoy these phones for quite a while. The features on all smartphones today are more than substantial.

"To each their own," good sir. :)

Yep we got that.

My Droid has a 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash aswell. Can't edit videos natively, there might be an app available but I guess iPhone wins in that regard.

Yep.
It really comes down to OS preference because a lot of the apps are on both.
