Newgrounds Was Funny When... was a meme that was deadpooled on KnowYourMeme (dang, I have spent too much time on that website), so the idea of Newgrounds not being good anymore was already something that was not that popular on the Internet anyway! Then again, this is the same website that deadpooled "Narwhals". Of course, they are also the guys who confirmed "Amazing Horse" or "Get On My Horse".

A lot of people seem to be ungrateful and too nostalgic to see the beauties of the present.

Oh wow, 7 pages. This is the most successful/active thread I've ever made. Probably because it had a productive and thought provoking goal and not just me trolling to piss people off.
In all seriousness though, your responses have been very informative regarding the history of Newgrounds. When I made it I thought that if we could identify what made Newgrounds supposedly better "back in the day" we could try to restore its glory, but now it sounds like its simply a mixture of nostolgia and favored people leaving.
Also, horray for Tom Fulp posting on my thread! He only got on to call it a "repeat thread" and to tell his employees to get back to work but still... TOM FULP!

I love how the moment a moderator came in and told everyone off who more than likely "complained about Newgrounds today at some point", the thread opinion suddenly shifted from jokes about how it was better to more bitching about why it isn't.
Follow the leader.
I would punch him in the face.

Will it have the music? If so, yes. If not, no, hang your head in shame.

If you ask the non BBS community about whether or not NG was better back in the day, most of them will say no. Back in the day, most flash had shitty art, was full of spam, and developers couldn't actually make a living doing what they love.
The big divide in who likes old NG vs current NG directly relates to whether or not they actually contributed anything of value.
Hmmm, really?

Naw we're quoting from the excellent lecture turned song, Wear Sunscreen. If we'd quoted all of that particular passage it goes:
"Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders. Respect your elders."

BBS has always been a shit hole. In four years it has not changed at all.
Animation has gotten better and better. My only complaint is that there used to be more female voice actors. Now it's just that Rinachan weaboo who makes my ears bleed.

I remember being shown this site when I was about 8 by my cousin. Back then it was still all Osama Bin Laden stuff covering the front page, every one of which depicting him being killed in a humerous way.
When I came back years later and saw how much everything had progressed, I couldn't help but gasp away to myself. Gasp, gasp gasp, I did.

The flash animations, games, art, audio and features are at their peak of awesome and the forums is pretty much the same as it always has been (except maybe not as nice as it was pre-2004).
As said before, Newgrounds will keep changing and the people on Newgrounds today will say that 2010 was the "good old days" and the cycle will repeat itself...or something like that.

Can't you switch to the classic view in your account or something? Or are you talking about some older way I have no idea about?
Either way, people will always be complaining about shit not being good as they were in the old days. It's really just human nature to have nostalgia like that.

The Newgrounds I remember from three years ago (today being my 3-year-anniversary, hooray) had fewer shitty corporate games and more shitty spam. To be honest, I'm starting to think the spam was better for the site, though it would be best if every submission was good rather than spam or cookie-cutter corporate crap. The forums were... Well, the video game forum, the writing forum, they came in my time, not sure about which others but I think it was animation and collaboration. But they're mostly the same quality they were back then, for better or for worse. It's more or less the same as it was back then.
The only thing that makes me worry is P-Bot's daily posts: compare the most recent to this one from about three years ago. You'll notice that there were more "popular" artists submitting back then, and I've noticed that there were more submissions in general in those days. And I guess the stuff that used to steal Underdog and earn Turd made a bigger splash back then: you people expect a deleted Underdog or Turd. That "Entry deleted" text had to be added because before my time people didn't get deleted in three days, but during my time Underdog decayed into the "Mass-Reviewers Award" and was more often deleted. And let me tell you about the spammers back then! Nowadays, you rarely get to know the spammers. They spam, they get deleted, they make a new account, you don't know where most of them come from, it's hard to deduce a pattern of activity and figure out who's who behind each alt. Back in late 2007, early 08, the start of my period here, you could run into spammers on the forums. You could cross paths with them, butt heads with them, learn from them. You'd run into members of spam groups on a regular basis, and aside from the spam and the crew stuff, they were regular Newgrounders. Spammers now just adopt a one-note "evil" gimmick and waste nothing but their own time and a minute of Wade's. They don't get any attention, because they neither do anything big enough to get attention (like when Chris Beer and his friends hacked moderators) nor do they stay around long enough to build attention (like when the Kitty Krew spammed the Portal).
But regular users are now as they were then. In fact, I'd say this is the best the forums could be right now.

I think the old theme was a lot better. Yes we have more functionality & way better content along with further recognition & success, but the old Newgrounds just looked better. It had more of a 'Newgrounds feel', like it represented the site better than this dark blue & orange madness. I mean, the other themes had more tastiness visually. The art was partly made to look like it was wearing away. The only thing made to look like the environment has affected this theme is the pain splodges left & right of the banner.

I remember when I saw "Newgrounds used to be awesome" as a deadpooled meme in KnowYourMeme. So if that is a rejected meme, then it must not be real. Seriously, we have declined ever since YouTube was made. I think in terms of videos, we may have even been the most popular website of its kind before YT. It could be worse, no one even talks about Ebaumsworld nowadays, but Newgrounds submissions at least get popular on YT.
