4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsI've been having some trouble with my Photoshop/Painter11/Sai images. They're not coming out as I would like them. How do I change this?
I'm not sure if I want to continue to use Layers as I've been taught, or, go to using just a Canvas to color my stuff.
A little help please?
What do you mean by they're not coming out as you would like? Could you be more specific?
For me, it really depends what im doing. If I'm doing a portrait and I want to emulate paint, I only use one layer to color and sketch on, for instance, this was all done on one layer. However, if i'm either doing a larger piece or a character, I generally have a layer of sketches, lineart, colour and backgrounds.

I mean it's like every time i go to add shades or highlights they don't mix well enough. I want this and other things I'm working on to look as professional as possible.

well, from what ive seen in your starter images, you cel-shade, and maybe add a little blur to the edges
what i would recommend (i've been doing this with my cel-shade in SAI and it turns out great) is:
1.) Select with Magic wand tool the area you want to color
2.) New Layer
3.) Bucket Fill with selected color
4.) New Layer (on top of the one you are working on!!!)
5.) Select "Layer Clip" ("Clip Layer" depending on which version of SAI, whatever)
6.) Select desired shade/highlight color
7.) Color on this clipped layer
What happens is, on the new layer, it will only color on top of what has been colored on the previous layer. Be warned though, when you unclip the the layer everything you have colored will be shown (not just the color on top of the previous layer)
Of course, you might have meant something completely different and I'm just wasting my breath. Whatever.
btw, Ashman, this guys is getting "freeky" for you.
Get up on it.

I find these behaviors rather confusing ... I guess I'll get these jokes when I get older... Oh wait.
