What are you talking about? This isn't an agreement/disagreement over semantics, it is a fact based on definition. If you define a religion as something that believes one or more things that cannot be proven, then you have to categorize atheism as a religion as atheists by definition believe there are no gods.

I look for solid proof that can be sought out in a truthful manner, he likes to explore a spiritual answer.
I don't think we should argue really, it will get us nowhere.

1) The definition of atheism is A BELIEF THAT THERE ARE NO GODS!!! Can you prove there are no gods? No. Are atheists believing in a principle they cannot prove? Yes.

2) How would you define a religion? To me and most other people, a religion can be defined simply as one that believes in something that cannot be proven. Would a belief that there are no gods in existance count as a belief that cannot be proven? YES. Therefore, atheism is a religion.

This is sooooo unbelievably simple, I seriously can't believe you don't get this yet.
