There's bunch of them, but who are the best of the best? The most well-known musicians?
I only (think) I know three -- Evil-Dog, hania, and AMP.
Your opinion, and explanation as for why? :)

This. Plus, the best musician is relative to musical taste. One person will like one genre, another person likes another; there is no one artist that is liked by everyone.
But, if I must answer this question, it's got to be ParagonX9, Chronamut and xKore.

On Newgrounds, where those guys are pretty well-known.
Also, I apologize -- best =/= well-known, popular, or otherwise. How silly of me to imply/say otherwise.

Everyone just has to know ParagonX9. He definitely got a lot of attention with the female skit.
Another one is FDA, because of the Endless Handbag Loop that was the main theme of the Audio Portal.

dont fall into the female trap. Only thing women are good at generally on this site in the music dept are singing.
i can think or one or 2 exceptions but the rule generally stands.

Not necessarily. Reread the rules (for both forums). You can pretty much talk about anything there, whether you get a reply or not is another matter.
I'm gonna stop backseat modding before I say something stupid/deadly. Formalities aside, saw some big names - heres some more.
DjBjra
ZeRo-BaSs
Winterwind-NS
Gravey
Envy
BOUNC3
cheshyre
Metaljonus
Hopeku
Mrmilkcarton
Blarsa
Thats all I feel like listing right now.

Your implication intrigues me -- are these successful acts not as well-known as I thought? Or are you implying that I should know more than just them? If that's the case -- duh. It's why I made the thread, silly.

Dude, dude, dude, dude......
I am NOT in anyway a well known artist. I am definitely in the lower tier of this community. Just because I got Top 5 recently doesn't mean I'm popular/well-known at all.
B0UNC3
Envy
ParagonX9
Dj-Nate
F-777
xKore
and many others
(in no particular order) are definitely the most known and popular.
But the most respected I would say would be, (again in, no particular order)
Sorohanro
SBB
nathanallenpinard
MaestroRage
and many others
I'm flattered as hell though XD

I completely second this comment and then create various alts to third it and fourth it.
What I have come to realize is that the REAL best songs on this site are found like diamonds in a deep pit of dirt. I have found some very amazing songs on this site... and made a front page post dedicated to certain gems.
Here are a couple of songs that, in my opinion, are underrated along with the artists who compose them.

Those artists are good, but not the best artists here on NG. The best artists are, a lot of the time, hidden in the Audio Portal and you'll have to be an audio regular to know who they are. Probably why all the flash artists complain about how hard it is to find good music in the Audio Portal.
Hania and Evil-Dog are quite popular in the Flash Portal, and AMP got a few top 5's before, so that may have led you to think that they're the best of the Audio Portal, but there are loads of other excellent artists who deserve much more recognition.

TBH I belive that evil-dog has cemented himself a permenant non-negotiable space as one of the best musicians on the site.
the rest are negotiable.

I literally worshiped a death metal band some time ago here... I wonder what happened to them. :/
Anyway, we need more Drone ambient and Funeral doom here XD

I don't really know that you will get a "best known artist" list, because people will argue about it constantly, but a few more names would be good to add..
Why hasn't David Orr been mentioned?
others to consider:
HalcyonicFalconX
MarkySpark
Gravey
oh, and part of the problem is that people disappear entirely from NG from time to time, and new people become popular, etc., so this is an ever-changing, evolving list.

I rent a basement. :( Ouch dude. It's all I can afford as a struggling audio artist. Just because I live in a basement suite doesn't make my E-penis any smaller. lol
