He is not a role model.
Certainly not someone who deserves a day in their memory.
He killed himself with drugs, I couldn't care less if he was a good animator or not.
will you guys remember me when I die?
I hope =)
That doesn't exactly give people a lot of time to make something decent... I'll just sit and watch what others come up with. Rest in peace, Ben.
Are you MAN enough to click this?!

You're such a dick. He may have overdosed on heroin but he was a great guy. And not everyone has to make tributes, but at least pay some respect and don't be a dick about it. He made some great flash animations and he deserves his own day.
I need a sig.

I'm sorry, but this realy isn't that good of a message. -Make animations, be a member for 10 years, then die from heroin and you will be a online hero.- A bit sad that someone died, and kinda cool there will be a day didicated to a person dead, just that he died from something stupid really just seems....frustrating to comprehend.
Did you hear about the 3 guys that stole a truck of viagra? All I know is that police are looking for hardened criminals.
Drugs are bad, m'kay?

Well, I gotta make an epic track in contribution. I don't know how I'm going to contribute through music though...

R.I.P
It's sad to lose as much potential as Ben's.
What a good looking mirror.

The day before my birthday.
RIP Ben
Nov 5th was Ben's birthday and seems to be a fitting time to celebrate his life here on Newgrounds. On this day, everyone is invited to submit games, animation, art and music using Ben's characters.
That's a cool idea. A new NG holiday
RIP. I'll be sure to make a tribute.

We're not celebrating his death, we're celebrating his life. Get over your self-righteousness.
how do we know the guy died from heroin, or if he died in the first place? If he was dead, it's not like he could announce it! (Please answer)
this is probably what he would want... he's probably watching us as we speak, so Rest In Peace Ben
man sucks that he had to die so young

Sorry, I didn't know being a 'great guy' and then wasting any discernible talent he had by becoming a drug addict means he deserves his own day.
Love the poem reference. I remember hearing it from V for Vendetta. <3
I remember when he died. It was so sad. He made one of my favorite games, Pimp's Quest. I still play it to this day. Seeing his very first flash submitted and his final truly showed how much he improved.
R.I.P. Ben.
This is a very good idea but some people will make fun of his death and be real jerks. So I would probably just be ready for that. Kittykrew or clockcrew or some other dickheads on Newgrounds will make fun for sure.

PEOPLE OD AND DIE ON HEROIN EVERY DAY.
why make a day for a shitty animator.
I mean Krinkles holiday was a stretch now we're just getting fucking bored.
I don't know if a tribute to a user that died of a drug overdose sends a good message to all the young impressionable minds here on Newgrounds. I don't take any joy in any death, and a tribute is fitting though I believe an ongoing annual day dedicated to him isn't the way to go. Perhaps a day for the fallen in general would send a better message.
There are several promising users that have died or worse over the years. I think livecorpse was in a police standoff and killed himself. Anyway... Ng users don't always make the best decisions, and as long as the message isn't that it is a good idea to follow in their footsteps a tribute to artists that have died is a healthy reminder I guess.
RIP Ben,
It's interesting that a few days ago something reminded of his tragic death and that I'm lucky to be alive ... and am still able to create. His Stick Slayer animations were a great inspiration for me many years ago. I'll definitely create something (depending on time may have to be scaled down).
I'll drink a RICKARD'S RED to him, Josh.
Dey Beh Comin Fo YOU...
As I said before, it really sucks that he died because he along with Tom, Wade, Mindchamber, Luis, Stamper, Jim Ether, Dom Price, Clark Lybeck, Randy Solem, Dan Paladin, Sirkowski (before he went to shit in 2004), Doomhammr, McFretn, Thistler, Zeebarf, n0g0d, Razzo, Sommy, Knox (who is too busy dicking around on Youtube these days), Em Kaah, Psycho Goldfish, Doug Sauncy, Rhete, and a few others made Newgrounds into what it is today. Look, I know that overdosing on heroin is a shitty way to die, but I'm getting sick of all the shit Ben is getting because of that. In spite of his drug habit, He wasn't just one of us, he was The Best of us. Ben was ready to make a Magnum Opus of a flash animation, whereas Arrogancy's flash has aged quite badly over the years.
I'm not impressed with the way things are going here.

Clock Crew? I don't think they are a spam crew anymore....

Contributions don't always have to take a material form. Judging someone's value based on the quality of their work has little to do with their impact on a community. While I was not around during his time, it's pretty clear that Ben made a significant impact on a number of users as well as staff members.
And while I don't condone the use of certain drugs, please ... get real. The world celebrates a countless list of idols, icons, and heroes that had notoriously bad habits. Bitching about one guy being a bad role model for kids is ludicrous.
for something in his memory should we try to complete stick slayer IX?
or at least as best the that we can?
Ben Spurgin... I remember when I first found out about this. I was at school and I just got my internet access to work there. Only to find the tragic news.
Ben's flashes were one of the first flash cartoons I saw on here back before I was a member, and I always found them to have there own unique style and look that no one has duplicated.
If I am able to, I would like to pay tribute to him some how, some way.
I've had his name in my sig ever since.

I can see this being an issue if infact we all decided to make animations advocating the use of drugs.
but, for some, reason.. I dont.. think thats what we are aiming for here.

Thing is, we're not mourning about the way he died, we're mourning the legacy that was him and his animation. I never knew the guy, but by the sound of it, he sounds like a pretty cool guy.
Any animator of his standard deserves some respect.
RIP Ben.
I can't tell if you're joking, because you never use emoticons. ~ SolidToad
I do not know who this Ben Spurgin is, though I shall pay my respects nonetheless.
NOTE: not a complete idiot. some parts are missing.
