Oct 13th will mark the 1-year anniversary of Ben Spurgin's tragic death.

Last year we tried organizing a collaboration in tribute to Ben's contributions to Newgrounds, but as often happens with ambitious collaborations, things fell through the cracks.

Most of the artists that were involved in planning the original collaboration still wanted to do something special, so we came up with a new plan: November 5th will be the official Ben Spurgin Tribute day.

For those unfamiliar with Ben's work, he was a great example of what Newgrounds has always been about. He had very little training in art and animation, but kept raising the bar on his own work, giving us something bigger and better with each new animation. In the process he created several popular series, making him one of the forerunners for today's animators. Check out his work here.

Nov 5th was Ben's birthday and seems to be a fitting time to celebrate his life here on Newgrounds. On this day, everyone is invited to submit games, animation, art and music using Ben's characters. We're looking forward to seeing your interpretations of these classic, NG icons!
