No it's usually pretty easy to spot. I myself like to bump some of them for entertainment, but I usually put something constructive into them.

Really I don't look at the dates unless something seems off, like saying something will happen when it already has or something like that.

Here's a tip;

We don't have to ignore every single bumped topic. A lot of the time the users notice when a person who bumped it has done so with a worthy post and the thread may indeed continue.
